Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Peden.
Hi Chris, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am the proud father of two autistic children. I earned an accounting degree in college and passed the CPA, CMA, and CFM exams early in my career. I worked at several companies, ending up at Verizon from 2018 to 2025.
Back in 2009, we were told there would be layoffs, and I decided it was probably time to start something on the side that could replace my income if I was laid off. So I started my business and grew it until I was actually laid off in 2018, and I have been going steady on my own since then.
My wife works with me in the business, and it has been very helpful to have a business that gives us time to deal with the challenges our kids face having autism.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been easy, as autism can be a very chaotic situation. You never know when a situation will cause a meltdown or require more attention for my wife and I to deal with a situation that arises. In addition, there is quite a bit of paperwork that goes along with the reports that need to be filed with various agencies that provide assistance to the boys.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Peden Accounting Services?
The business is a two-person effort, my wife and i. We focus on helping people and small businesses not only complete their tax returns, but also help them to understand what is going on with their tax return and provide guidance on what they can do to make their situation better, as well as grow their business so that they can use it to fund their dream life.
One thing that sets us apart is that we want to help our clients understand what is going on so they can make better decisions. I know quite a few tax practices that basically say, “Here’s your tax return; sign here, and we will file it.” We want to make sure people are comfortable with the numbers being reported and know what moves they need to make going forward.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
When we first got married, we moved to a small town in South Carolina and absolutely loved its intimacy and pace of life. We have pretty much found the same thing here in Manassas, and have made quite a few good friends who have been so very supportive of us in our autism journey, as well as helping us to build and sustain the business.
