Hidden Gems: Meet Maikel Diane Brown of The Brown Gals, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maikel Diane Brown.

Hi Maikel Diane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an artist at heart and have always loved expressing myself in different ways, whether through drawing, writing, designing something, or simply bringing an idea to life. The Brown Gals originally began as a “Transcendent Space of Creativity,” created to inspire, influence and motivate other creatives to explore their gifts and pursue their passions through art.

As The Brown Gals grew, so did the ways I was able to use my experiences, skills and ideas to support others. That opened many new doors, from virtual assistance and creative consulting to content creation, website design, event planning and publishing. At the same time, I’ve been evolving and growing as an individual too, all while balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship and the many different roles that are part of my life.

Today, The Brown Gals has evolved into a space that reflects life as a whole, bringing together creativity, business, family and real life in a way that feels authentic to who I am and what the brand has become. At its core, The Brown Gals remains a space to inspire, influence and motivate others to explore their own paths, passions and possibilities. That’s really what our new message represents: “Life has more than one lane. So do we.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. The Brown Gals truly started with just an idea and a goal to create something meaningful that could leave a legacy connected to my family name. In the beginning, there were financial struggles, periods where I was operating more from survival mode than strategy, and times when I was simply trying to keep everything moving while figuring things out along the way.

I’ve also experienced health challenges and had to become much more intentional about protecting my mental health, my time and my energy. Early in my journey, I didn’t always honor my own personal boundaries, and I had to learn that constantly saying yes, overextending myself or trying to carry everything at once was not sustainable. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, client work, family responsibilities and my own goals has taught me that growth does not always happen on a perfect timeline.

There have also been plenty of moments of trial and error, learning new skills, wearing multiple hats and questioning which direction made the most sense for The Brown Gals. Snd on of the biggest lessons I’ve learned has been to trust myself enough to pivot when something no longer feels aligned. Changing directions doesn’t always mean starting over… Sometimes it simply means that you’ve grown.

And then there’s the element of resilience. Resilience has been a huge part of me and and my family’s story. We’ve experienced a lot, but we continue to move forward… together. I often think of us like a palmetto tree. We may bend and bow through the storms, but we are still strong and still standing. That same resilience is behind everything I’m building. My goal is not just to create something for today, but to strengthen connections I make, create a strong body of work and to leave a legacy that can stand for a lifetime.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Brown Gals, LLC?
The Brown Gals is a creative and lifestyle-based business built around the idea that life does not have to fit into just one lane. What originally started as a space for artists and creatives has grown into something much broader. Bringing together creativity, business, family and real life.

Through The Brown Gals, I provide virtual assistance and creative consulting for entrepreneurs, small businesses, artists and creatives. My work has included content creation, social media support and marketing, web design, administrative support and event planning. Mainly helping clients take their ideas and turn them into something more tangible. I also have a publishing side of the business, which began with publishing my own children’s book. And now, it has grown to act as a space to not only highlight others’ work, but to provide opportunities that can help other authors bring their stories to life under The Brown Gals imprint.

What I think sets The Brown Gals apart, is that I don’t believe people have to limit themselves to one title, one interest or one path. The brand reflects that same mindset. It can be professional, creative, personal and family-centered all at once. I want people to come across The Brown Gals and feel encouraged to explore all the different parts of who they are and what they want to build.

What I’m most proud of is that the business has continued to evolve without losing its original purpose. At the center of everything is still the goal to inspire, influence and motivate others. The Brown Gals is becoming a space where I can not only share my own journey, but also highlight other people, their businesses, their stories and the many different ways they are creating lives that are true to them.

That’s really what “Life has more than one lane. So do we.” means to me.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve learned that sometimes growth requires being willing to take a chance on yourself before you have everything completely figured out. Starting The Brown Gals was a risk in itself because it began with an idea, a vision and a willingness to learn as I went. Over the years, I’ve taken risks by expanding into new ventures, saying yes to opportunities outside of my comfort zone and allowing myself to pivot when something no longer felt aligned.

I don’t necessarily think of risk-taking as being reckless. For me, it’s about believing enough in an idea to take the next step, even when things are still unknown. And honestly, sometimes being a little “delusional” can be a good thing when you’re building something you truly believe in. You have to be willing to see the vision before anyone else does. Keep moving forward even when others may not understand it yet. Some risks have worked exactly how I hoped. Others have taught me what not to do. But they’ve all helped me grow.

One of the biggest and newest risks I’m taking right now is building and creating Duuality: A completely new and separate business and dating platform centered around intentional connection, deeper conversations, intellectual compatibility and helping people feel understood. Building something in the tech and dating space is very different from what I’ve done before, and there’s a lot I’m learning in real time. But it started with recognizing a need, having an idea and deciding that instead of just wondering whether it could exist, I wanted to see if I could actually build it.

I think some of the most meaningful things I’ve done have started with a little bit of fear, a lot of curiosity, maybe a little delusion, and the decision to try anyway.
