Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Cox.
Hi Daniela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m actually a Registered Nurse. I’ve been one for 15 years now. I’ve also been an Artist my whole life. In 2016 I really started an inner healing journey that allowed me to paint again. In 2017 I started wanting to share my art that told of my healing and newfound joy because of Jesus, so I started experimenting with the idea of presenting at markets. Then in 2019 I became a regular vendor at the Old Beach Art and Eco Market. It was so beautiful as an ICU Nurse to see the lighter sided of life and see how my work and what the Lord doing in me could bring to the Marketplace. Also in 2022 my husband got out of the Navy and started his own business, Cox Construction & Design, where I got to do Interior Design work as well. Seeing my husband run his own business and being surrounded by entrepreneurs and becoming one myself I realized how you cannot run a business alone. My heart grew for wanting to champion other entrepreneurs and help them be seen and supported. I put together my own Christmas popup in 2023 to support fellow believers in business and it’s then that I heard God speak so clearly “you’re going to do this in a magazine”. In fall of 2024, not knowing a thing about being a magazine editor, publisher or any of it, I released the first issue of Beyond Sundays Magazine. A publication that showed Hampton Roads the precious artisans we had all around us so we could support them. The first issue I released 200 copies. It has now grown to releasing 2500 copies last issue. The magazine has recipes, songs, stories of incredible miracle stories taking place in our city, and the faith-filled gems y9u can find conducting all sorts of vibrant businesses all around us from juice makers to book writers and flour millers. It’s a beautiful, quality in-hand publication that represents God in excellence and character by finding the people that don’t just represent Him inside a church on Sunday, but when it’s not so easy in the Monday through Saturday grind.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. The biggest hurdle is feeling a calling so deeply but feeling utterly unqualified for it. But I guess that’s who God calls. Cause the point is He’s there to help you. He likes to do things in relationship, not just throw you to the wolves. The other hurdle I think we can all relate to is how we tend to see the success stories on socials. Not a lot of people reveal the journey of building they go on. I am a Pioneer, a Builder, A Culture Shifter. And that can be lonely and slow. But I gotta keep on going, and so do you! If we could see the process behind the success in all these stories, I know we would be amazed and encouraged. It’s rare to build something great and lasting overnight.
As you know, we’re big fans of Beyond Sundays Magazine, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I go on what I like to call “Treasure Hunts”. It’s not enough to call yourself a Christian. Many people out there call themselves a great person but when you get to the nitty gritty, you see their true colors. So I go out and see people conducting business. I can see the people with integrity, kindness, and genuineness that comes from their Faith in Christ. Those are the people I put in the magazine. I know that there are many people out there that will never step foot inside a church. But they will go into a retail shop. And that’s where they can experience the kind of healing I got back in 2016 inside a church building. I got healing because that church created space for God to do what He does best. And so do these business owners right in their own little shops. They are representatives of who God really is and the atmosphere He intends to set. True goodness flows from Him. And I want my magazine to show those shops that you can step into and taste that He is good whether you ever go to church or not.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I’m still a Nurse part time! Just a year ago I was still working in the ICU keeping people alive on machines, dealing with the sickest of the sick. I know how precious life is which is why I want people to experience the abundance of it and live every day like it’s their last. And life is most precious with our Maker, and with the community of people all around us. Love God and love people!
