Rising Stars: Meet Laura Ritchie of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Ritchie.

Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up between Great Falls and McLean Virginia and went to college for Fashion Merchandising at Radford University. I was always the planner of the group, the one plotting the logistics and dictating the dress code. This parlayed perfectly into a career in event design and planning for luxury weddings across the nation. After working in hotels and catering for a few years after college I started my own company and have been operating Grit & Grace Inc for the last 18 years.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is smooth in entrepreneurship and there have been tons of lessons along the way. Figuring out what I like do vs. what pays the bills was initially a struggle but to this day the joy of design has always been at the cornerstone of the path Ive taken.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from other Wedding and Event Designers is my direct approach and passion for pushing the envelope. I truly enjoy creating out of the box pattern play designs and unique experiences for my clients and their guests that shock and awe. Ensuring that we aren’t just copying trends but setting them is very important to me.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My company has had to honor of ebbing and flowing through many iterations of employees and assistants that have believed in the process and the ethos of how we produce events. Without those women who have been apart of the last almost two decades I wouldn’t be where I am today.
