Inspiring Conversations with Tigist Delay of Storyline & Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tigist Delay.

Hi Tigist, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to photography and to finding beauty in ordinary things, the small moments, the imperfections, and the things we often overlook in ourselves.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also realized how much more valuable photographs become with time. I cherish old photographs of my family, especially the ones that let me see pieces of their lives before I was even here. There is something powerful about holding a moment you never got to experience yourself.

Now I think about that with my own child. We live in such a digital world where thousands of photos can sit in a phone and be forgotten, but one day those photographs may be some of the most meaningful things we leave behind.

That the heart of Storyline & Co. I want people to feel seen and to recognize the beauty that already exists in their lives. I don’t think it is my job to create beauty. It is to notice it and preserve it before the ordinary becomes a memory.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I think one of the hardest parts has been learning to trust my own eye in a world where it’s so easy to compare yourself to others. I’ve always learned that growth isn’t always about becoming more like everyone else sometimes it’s about becoming more confident in what makes you different.

We’ve been impressed with Storyline & Co. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Storyline & Co. is a photography studio centered around storytelling. I photograph families, maternity, couples, wedding and personal brands with an approach that blends editorial image with honest unscripted moments.

What I am most proud of is that the work still feels human, I am not interested in perfection for the sake of perfection. I want beautiful photographs that still feel like you, your connection, your personality – Your STORY.

More than anything I want people leave Storyline & Co with the experience of feeling seen and cared for. The photographs should be beautiful today, but even more meaningful years from now.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned how human we are all in front of a camera. We get shy, we downplay our beauty and sometimes we’re afraid to really be seen. I’ve learned not to fight that nervousness, but to look for the moments in between. Sometimes the smile you don’t think twice about or the look in your eyes when you forget the camera is there is the most beautiful part of you. Maybe we’re simply too used to ourselves to see it.
