Daily Inspiration: Meet Adriana Margriet Grant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Margriet Grant.

Hi Adriana Margriet, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I doodled my way through childhood. I’d filled up notebook after notebook. It was how I connected and communicated with the world around me. Later, I found excellent teachers who helped me take my art to the next level. Finding good teachers was a game changer for me and opened my eyes to the art world at large.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m not sure there is a smooth road to being an artist. The more I studied art, the more I realised how much there is to learn. I feel almost insignificantly small when I compare myself with the Old Masters and today’s successful realist painters. It can be easy to doubt your own significance. There are outside obstacles to overcome and inner obstacles. The older I get the more I realise that the inner obstacles are the hardest ones to overcome.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Today, I am a realist painter with a background in illustration, photography, and journalism. I study the Old Masters and want to be able to realistically draw or paint what I see and translate it into art. I want to show what I see in a way that a photograph can’t capture, to find life and meaning in the choices I make on paper or canvas. A lot of people are familiar with modern art and Impressionism, but less familiar with skill-based realistic art. I love to show what can be done when you step into this time-tested approach and give it a modern twist.
