Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Hinebaugh.
Hi Carmen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path into wedding planning wasn’t exactly a straight line. I planned a friend’s wedding while I was in college and fell in love with the combination of creativity, logistics, and bringing people together. But before making a career of it, I took a few detours, including working as a data privacy attorney in Washington, DC, and owning a coffee shop. Not exactly the traditional wedding planner résumé, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
My background in law gave me an appreciation for the details, organization, and problem-solving that go into making something complicated feel effortless. But I knew I wanted to do something that allowed me to be more creative, build meaningful relationships, and genuinely love the work I was doing. Evermore Occasions grew out of that.
What began as a love of planning celebrations has evolved into a wedding planning and design firm serving couples throughout the East Coast, with roots in Washington, DC, Virginia, and now New England. Along the way, I’ve become increasingly passionate about the intersection of thoughtful design and exceptional guest experiences.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think anyone who tells you entrepreneurship has been a smooth road is either incredibly lucky or has a very selective memory.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to grow a business without losing the things that made me love it in the first place. When you start a company, you’re everything: the planner, designer, accountant, marketing department, and occasionally the person troubleshooting a printer at midnight. As Evermore has grown, I’ve had to learn when to let go, how to build systems that support the experience I want to provide, and how to trust other people to care about the details as much as I do.
I’ve also had to learn that being a great planner doesn’t mean saying yes to everything. It’s knowing when to offer a different perspective, setting boundaries, and being confident enough in your expertise to guide clients rather than simply agree with them. That confidence takes time to develop, especially in an industry where the work is so personal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Evermore Occasions is a wedding planning and design firm serving couples throughout the East Coast, particularly in the Washington, DC area and New England. We specialize in thoughtful, design-forward celebrations that feel deeply personal to the people we’re celebrating. We love a beautiful ballroom, but give me a blank-slate property, a complicated floor plan, and a couple with a strong point of view, and I’m in my element.
Design is a huge part of what we do, and I think we’re known for creating weddings that feel distinctive without being overdone. I’m not particularly interested in recreating something we’ve seen a hundred times on Pinterest. I want to understand who our couples are, what they love, and how they want their guests to feel, then translate that into something that feels entirely their own. But beautiful isn’t enough. I’m equally interested in how a wedding functions: how guests move through a space, how the atmosphere evolves throughout the evening, and how all those carefully considered details come together to create an experience that feels effortless.
I think what sets Evermore apart is that we approach planning and design with equal enthusiasm. We’re creative, but we’re also incredibly practical. We’ll dream up something unexpected, figure out exactly how to execute it, and tell you if it isn’t the best use of your budget. We’re also not afraid to have an opinion. Our couples hire us for our expertise, and I think part of respecting that trust is being willing to offer honest guidance rather than simply saying yes to everything.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the relationships we build with our couples and the trust they place in us. Weddings are incredibly personal, and inviting someone into that process is a big deal. I love when a couple walks into their reception and sees something that feels unmistakably like them, but I love it even more when they’re too busy enjoying themselves to think about what’s happening behind the scenes. That’s really the goal. We take care of the complicated things so they can be fully present for the good ones.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think it’s my ability to stay grounded, especially when things get complicated. Weddings involve big emotions, big budgets, a lot of moving pieces, and no shortage of opinions. It’s easy to get lost in the details, but I think my strength is knowing which details matter, making thoughtful decisions, and keeping the bigger picture in focus.
I’m naturally organized and pretty unflappable, but I also care deeply about the people on the other side of every decision. Sometimes that means advocating for an ambitious creative idea, and other times it means telling a couple that I genuinely don’t think they need to spend money on something. I don’t believe being a good planner means making everyone happy every minute of the process. It means being someone people can trust to give them honest advice, make the hard calls when necessary, and always have their best interests in mind.
