Hidden Gems: Meet Cadence Willis of Willis Waxing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cadence Willis.

Cadence, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Willis Waxing started with my appreciation for my clients. Far too often, we feel like we’re just another appointment, but I wanted to build a place where people felt seen and truly valued.

Beauty care isn’t always in the budget for a big family, so from a very early age, my mom and family friends took care of all our beauty wants and needs. Routine maintenance for my siblings eventually turned into learning opportunities and a passion for making others feel confident through hair, nails, makeup, or even just waxing their eyebrows.

When I got to high school, I was fortunate enough to complete a full cosmetology course, pass my state board exams, and become a licensed cosmetologist. I attended college for a year in a completely different field before ultimately realizing how much I loved helping others feel their best.

One of my best friends from that cosmetology class, who later became my mentor, reached out with an opportunity to further my training in the waxing portion of our licensure. Through her incredible expertise, I developed my own techniques and quickly grew my clientele.

Comments like, “This was the most comfortable I’ve ever felt during a wax,” and, “Even though it hurts, this is still the best part of my day!” helped me understand how much weight can truly be lifted when you remove just a few hairs. It’s about more than the service itself; it’s about a kind conversation, a thorough wax, and a feeling that stays with you long after the appointment ends.

I decided I wanted to create a more personal experience where every client received the care and attention they deserved, rather than feeling like just another appointment in a busy schedule. I wanted to create a space they would feel proud to support.

And that’s how Willis Waxing was born! Today, I offer full-body waxing, brow lamination, lash lifts, and tinting in Christiansburg, Virginia, with the goal of making every client feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely cared for.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never easy. I may have had the proper training and incredible clientele, but I didn’t have any experience in business, website design, marketing, or even simple spreadsheets. I also couldn’t afford to create everything I was envisioning in my head but, I had a savings account with just enough to get started, and an extremely supportive family.

I couldn’t have done any of it without the help of my fiancé, parents, grandparents, siblings and friends. In just 2 weeks, we worked day and night to make this dream a reality. I had a treatment room. Of course, that didn’t mean immediate success, but a giant leap in the right direction.

I still face daily challenges as most do, there will always be so much to learn and so many ways to improve every aspect of my business, so I am truly thankful for struggles as each one leads to more growth in my personal life and professional career.

We’ve been impressed with Willis Waxing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
