Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Powell Jr.
Hi Andre, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Portsmouth, Va in an era where the sneaker culture was at an all time high. I wasn’t one to have all of the IT sneakers but the ones I did have, I made sure they stayed clean. I started this business back in 2010 while in high school, where I would do custom sneakers and then eventually ventured off into restoring sneakers from the 90s to the early 2000s-2010s to bring the grail culture back to life. As of today, I have worked with customers nationwide and have serviced over 400 pairs of sneakers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all! What started as a hobby became something that I started to lose passion in as I got older and started venturing out into doing different things such as early career development in the STEM field and working a full time job, which led to me almost giving up on the talent that was always there. Over the years, whether if it was during college or even on my job, people would always tell me how good my work was and that pushed me to taking my craft serious again and my love for it began to blossom again.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Prolific Kicks LLC is coined “prolific” because we believe that even if certain footwear may look like life is gone, we vow to pour life back into them to be worn again. Lots of youth are not able to afford new shoes so we make the effort to restore/customize and even donate shoes to not allow those children to be left out.
Here at Prolific Kicks LLC, we specialize in shoe restoration, whether they are sneakers, boots, casual shoes, and even purses/handbags. We offer sole/part swaps for vintage sneakers in an effort to bring them back to wearable conditions. Other services offered are deep cleanings, suede rejuvenation, repaints, and even sole deoxidation.
Here at Prolific Kicks LLC, we want to use our hands as a gift from God to restore shoes. When you look good, you feel good, and nothing feels better than having a fresh pair of sneakers on. Breathing new life into old or worn things that may get overlooked is my passion because anything can be restored and given new purpose!
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in God’s favor and blessings. I’ve been fortunate enough to turn a passion into something lucrative by keeping God at the forefront of everything that I do, including my business. I’ve connected with customers all over the country and have been able to share my craft with them, which not many have the opportunity to say that they have done, so to me, that’s favor, not luck!
