Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Leclaire.
Hi Aidan , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first started taking guitar lessons at 11 and then drum lessons around 13. I played with my friends for a bit before stopping around 15 to focus more on soccer. My senior year of high school my dad got a ukulele for his birthday and I became extremely fascinated with and taught myself how to play it. That summer, my mom got me an acoustic guitar as a graduation gift and that’s when I really started writing and recording songs. I met my band mate David freshman year of college and we started playing together. Since we have added local musicians who I write, record and play with such as my friends Izzy, Collin, Will and Brandon. They have helped shape what this projects sound has become.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all there has been many struggles along the way. At first it was finding people to play with as I had always envisioned this project being more like a band rather than a solo singer-songwriter. As I started looking and working in the music industry, I found a real community in the DMV music scene was an amazing amount of talented artists who I have been lucky enough to collaborate with. I feel like this project is still growing and trying to gain more fans and supporters which has also at times been a struggle but ultimately has been so rewarding.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a musician that specializes in music that aims to blend different genres of music together to create a unique sound. I’m most proud of our new album coming out “Diving.” It is one we have been working on for about six months and have spent so much time working on. Whether that’s inside the studio, in my basement writing or coming up with a better structure for a song, it really has been a very long process but I am really proud of what we created.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being able to continue making music that I’m proud of and I believe others will enjoy. To me being able to just play shows with my friends and seeing my family and friends that have known me for years in the crowd is already success enough.
