Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody McCracken.
Hi Cody, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always hated that I didn’t get a professional to do my wedding photos. We only have like 2 good photos from our wedding. So I wanted to capture other people’s story and make everything easy for them. I always seen photos being a weird or awkward thing growing up so I enjoy making it very fun and effortless for couples.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but honestly, that’s part of what’s made it rewarding. Photography is a very competitive industry, especially weddings. There are constantly new photographers entering the space, which can make it challenging to stand out and build trust with couples.
I think one of the harder parts of the journey has been learning how to separate yourself in a crowded market while staying true to who you are and the experience you want to provide. For me, that meant focusing less on trends and more on creating a genuine experience where people feel comfortable, cared for, and fully present on their wedding day.
At the same time, I think the growth of photography is also a really cool thing because more people are discovering a creative passion they love. The challenge is simply learning how to build consistency, professionalism, and trust over time in an industry where couples are making a once in a lifetime investment.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for having couples feeling more comfortable and relaxed during photos. My photos are more candid and natural. None of those stiff poses. Also a lot of photographers around me go over the top with styling. My couples are more down to earth and just want solid photos without spending hours in front of the camera. I created a posing system that gets portraits done close to 10 minutes. Every wedding I’ve personally been too has the couples gone for hours.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the wedding industry is going through a pretty big shift right now. Since COVID, I’ve noticed a lot more couples choosing smaller, more intentional weddings instead of huge traditional ones. People seem to care less about putting on a giant production and more about creating a meaningful experience with the people closest to them.
I also think the photography side of the industry has become a lot more crowded over the years, which can make it harder for couples to know who to trust. There’s a lot of noise online now, so I think photographers who focus on creating a great experience, building real trust, and consistently serving people well are the ones who will stand out long term.
