Hi Crystal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My entrepreneurial journey really began after my father passed away in 2011. Losing him caused me to pause and take a hard look at my own life. I found myself searching for something more meaningful and asking myself what I was truly passionate about and what I wanted my life’s work to look like.
That period of reflection ultimately led me to fashion. I had always loved clothing, styling, and helping women feel good about themselves, so in 2014, I took a leap of faith and founded Renee’s Boutique. What began as a passion project grew into a full boutique business, eventually leading me to open a physical showroom and build a community of women who trusted me to help them find their style.
Over the years, I learned just as much about entrepreneurship as I did about fashion. I experienced the highs of building a business, but also the challenges that come with it. Eventually, I realized that the traditional boutique model was no longer where I wanted to focus. After closing my showroom, I made the intentional decision to pivot and focus more deeply on the services where I could use my gifts to make a greater impact.
I became a Certified Image Consultant that specializes in professional bra fitting helping women understand their bodies, develop their personal style, and feel confident in how they show up in the world.
That evolution eventually led me into post-mastectomy care. I became a Certified Mastectomy Fitter because I wanted to be able to support women through a very personal and often overlooked part of their breast cancer journey—helping them find proper fit, comfort, support, and confidence after surgery.
Today, Renee’s Boutique looks very different from where it began, but the heart of the business has remained the same. I started this journey because I was searching for work that was connected to my passion, and I’ve discovered that my passion is ultimately about people—not just clothes.
I get to help women see themselves differently, feel comfortable in their bodies, and confidently step into whatever season of life they are in. What started with me searching for something more has evolved into a business centered around helping other women find more of themselves.
It has not been a straight or easy journey, but every transition has shaped me, strengthened me, and brought me closer to the kind of business and impact I believe I’m meant to create.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been a lot of highs and lows, and many moments when I questioned whether I was really on the right path. One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to grow a business while also navigating the financial realities of entrepreneurship. I’ve experienced significant losses, had to make the difficult decision to close my storefront, and completely rethink my business model. There have also been challenges with balancing being a business owner, wife, mother, and simply trying to take care of myself.
But every challenge has forced me to evolve. I’ve learned to be more resilient, to pivot when something isn’t working, and to trust that changing direction doesn’t mean I’ve failed. In many ways, the struggles have helped me become clearer about my purpose. Today, I’m not just building a styling business—I’m expanding into helping women feel confident and cared for through personal styling, professional bra fitting, and post-mastectomy services. The road hasn’t been smooth, but every season has shaped the woman and entrepreneur I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work has evolved quite a bit over the years. I’m the owner and stylist of Renee’s Boutique, where I specialize in personal styling, professional bra fitting, wardrobe development, and helping women understand how to dress for their individual body, lifestyle, and stage of life.
More recently, I’ve expanded my work into post-mastectomy care as a Certified Mastectomy Fitter. That transition is deeply personal for me. My aunt, who has special needs, battled breast cancer, and watching her navigate that experience opened my eyes to how different the journey can be for women who need more than just clothing or a bra. I saw the importance of having someone who understands the physical, emotional, and personal side of finding the right post-mastectomy products and support.
That experience inspired me to become formally certified as a Mastectomy Fitter so I could serve women in a more specialized way. Today, I’m passionate about helping breast cancer survivors and women who have undergone mastectomies find comfort, proper fit, support, and confidence as they navigate life after surgery.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve been willing to allow my business to evolve as my purpose became clearer. I started as a stylist, but I’ve learned that my work is about so much more than clothes. It’s about helping women see themselves again, feel comfortable in their bodies, and regain a sense of confidence during seasons when their bodies and lives may have changed significantly.
What sets me apart is that I bring both the styling and the fitting expertise together. I understand fashion, proportion, color, body shape, and personal style, but I also have specialized training in mastectomy fitting and breast health-related needs. I’m able to look at the whole woman—not just what she is wearing—and help her find solutions that are functional, beautiful, comfortable, and personal to her.
That combination of professional expertise and personal connection is what I believe makes my work different.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are centered around expanding my reach and making the services I provide accessible to more women. I’m especially excited about growing my post-mastectomy fitting services and establishing Renee’s Boutique as a trusted resource for women navigating life after breast cancer and other changes to their bodies.
One of my biggest goals is to eventually hire and train other women to become Certified Mastectomy Fitters and professional bra fitters. I don’t want my impact to be limited by how many appointments I can personally fit into a week. I want to build a team of women who are trained to provide the same level of care, expertise, and personal attention so that we can reach women in more communities.
I also see opportunities to partner with healthcare providers, hospitals, breast centers, and other organizations to make professional fitting services more accessible to patients. Ultimately, I would love to develop a model that can be replicated in other communities and create employment opportunities for women who want to do meaningful work in this field.
I’m looking forward to this next chapter because I feel like all of the different pieces of my journey—styling, bra fitting, entrepreneurship, my personal experiences, and becoming a Certified Mastectomy Fitter—are finally coming together. My vision is bigger than simply growing a business. I want to build something that can continue serving women even beyond what I can personally do.
