Check Out Emily Poindexter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Poindexter.

Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started hair school when my daughter was only four months old. I grew to love the industry. I started in a salon and day spa then worked my way up to booth renting then opening up my own downtown Roanoke Salon with employees. I operated Embellish Hair Studio downtown for 7 years before deciding on using the profits to open my own in-home luxury hair studio. Because my specialty in curly hair set me apart, I was able to flourish and grow my business to what has now become my dream.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always smooth. Definitely had to learn the ropes on some things including finances, taxes and how to manage employees. When operating downtown, we had five employees. Making sure they were all happy and thriving was key. Additionally, I opened up right before Covid. So of course that came with its own pushbacks. However, it only allowed me to come back stronger.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a master curl specialist and have had the honor of traveling and teaching other stylists education on curly hair as well. I’ve developed a name for myself in the curly hair world which allowed me to be where I am at today.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Motivation and passion are key to my successes. My clients appreciate the love I pour into my craft which gives me motivation to keep doing what I love.
