Guadalupe, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since opening on August 18, 2018, our family-owned restaurant concept has grown steadily over almost eight years. Across our three locations in the historic Williamsburg area, we have earned strong recognition from residents and adventurous visitors alike. Our authentic, made-from-scratch menu has helped us become one of the most distinguished restaurants among our neighbors, and we are highly recommended, with strong ratings across online platforms.
At our original location, Taqueria Maria Bonita at 6618-D Mooretown Rd, we have received the love of the people on Yelp for the last three years in a row. Our first location has also earned 1.5K Google reviews and remains a must-visit for families visiting the area year-round. Our loyal customers continue to return for great-quality food, innovative ideas, and excellent customer service, as reflected in reviews on Find Me Gluten Free, Yelp, Google, Facebook, and Instagram. Among the numerous Hispanic restaurants in the area, Maria Bonita faced the challenge of standing out.
Over the years, menu items such as the Huarache, Tamales, and Chiles rellenos—made from scratch with fresh, high-quality ingredients and, more importantly, with love every day—have made Taqueria Maria Bonita, Maria Bonita Cantina, and our newest project, Mil Amores Taqueria, a second home for our employees and valued loyal customers. We are grateful for your continued support.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any other business seeking to make a difference and stand out in our community, Maria Bonita has traveled a less familiar road, without a map or a clear idea of how today’s success was achieved. Our biggest challenge has been large catering orders from local businesses that chose our food for their special events. Regardless of the day, the size of the order, or the complexity, our team has become the favorite of many local schools, hospitals, and companies. Like other businesses, our restaurants also faced COVID-19, which affected how we operated while we continued to serve quality food and meet all safety and control guidelines to ensure our employees and valued customers were safe. Through it all, Maria Bonita has remained committed to serving our community with quality and care.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We serve authentic Mexican food made with love, fresh every day. We specialize in street tacos, tamales, burritos, and other favorites. We are known for consistent flavor and quality in our menu items. Our best advertisement is word of mouth, made possible by our local neighbors, whose praise has helped make us known in the community as a trusted source for authentic Mexican food.

I would like to give credit to my family, especially my mother, who has been with me through every step of becoming a business owner. I would also like to thank my sisters, Mari and Amanda, for helping manage my restaurants all these years.
