Check Out Kevin Mornot’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Mornot.

Hi Kevin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Recording Pod started with two lifelong friends, a basement, and an idea.

Larry and I have been friends for more than 30 years. After recording our own podcast in my basement, we experienced firsthand how much work goes into producing quality content—from setting up cameras and microphones to lighting, editing, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable speaking openly.

What began as us creating our own show eventually sparked a bigger idea. We realized there were plenty of people with great stories, businesses, and podcast concepts who wanted to create professional content but didn’t have the equipment, technical knowledge, or dedicated space to make it happen.

That’s when we decided to go into business together and create The Recording Pod.

We built The Recording Pod as a welcoming, professional space where podcasters, entrepreneurs, and creators can walk in with an idea and leave with high-quality content. Along the way, we taught ourselves the technical and business sides of the industry, including audio production, multicamera video, lighting, editing, livestreaming, branding, web development, and studio operations.

Building a business with someone you’ve known for 30 years is a unique experience. We know each other’s strengths, we can be honest with one another, and we share the same commitment to creating something meaningful. Of course, entrepreneurship always brings challenges, but every obstacle has pushed us to improve the studio and the experience we provide.

Today, The Recording Pod is more than the idea that started in my basement. It’s a creative home where people can share their stories, develop their voices, and bring their visions to life. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we’re even more excited about where we’re headed next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but we never expected entrepreneurship to be easy.

Larry brought more than a decade of professional A/V experience into The Recording Pod, which gave us a strong technical foundation from the beginning. My background was in entrepreneurship, business operations, branding, technology, and learning new systems quickly. Our experience complemented each other well, but building and operating a podcast studio still introduced challenges neither of us could fully anticipate.

One of the biggest challenges has been the financial investment. A professional studio requires cameras, microphones, computers, lighting, software, furniture, sound treatment, insurance, and constant equipment upgrades and maintenance. At the same time, we want our services to remain accessible to independent creators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. Balancing affordability with the actual cost of delivering professional production has been an ongoing challenge.

Another hurdle has been building awareness and maintaining a steady client base. Having a great studio is only part of the equation—you still have to market it, earn people’s trust, and show potential clients why professional production makes a difference.

We have also learned that operating a podcast studio involves much more than pressing record. Every client arrives with a different level of experience, preparation, and understanding of what it takes to build a successful show. Beyond production, we often help clients think through their format, presentation, branding, consistency, and overall direction.

As co-owners, Larry and I still wear a lot of hats. We’re responsible for production, scheduling, editing, marketing, client service, maintenance, and planning the future of the business. Even with Larry’s A/V expertise, technology can still humble you at the worst possible moment—and usually five minutes before a session.

The challenges have been real, but they’ve also made us stronger business owners. Every obstacle has helped us improve our systems, sharpen our services, and create a better experience for the people who trust us with their stories.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Larry and I are the co-owners of The Recording Pod, a professional podcast and content-production studio built for podcasters, entrepreneurs, businesses, and creators.

We specialize in making the production process as simple and comfortable as possible. Our clients can focus on the conversation while we handle the technical side, including professional audio, multicamera video, lighting, livestreaming, editing, and content delivery. We also help clients develop their concepts, improve their presentation, and build a consistent brand around their content.

Our professional backgrounds give us a unique combination of skills. Larry brings more than a decade of experience in audio and visual production, while I bring more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, along with entrepreneurship, business operations, technology, branding, and digital strategy. My cybersecurity career taught me how to manage complex systems, troubleshoot under pressure, protect information, assess risks, and create reliable processes—all skills that translate directly into operating a modern production studio.

Together, we understand both the creative and technical sides of the business. We know how to produce high-quality content, but we also understand the systems, planning, and strategy required to help clients use that content effectively.

What sets The Recording Pod apart is the experience we create. A studio can have expensive equipment and still feel cold or intimidating. We’ve worked hard to build an environment where people feel welcomed, supported, and comfortable enough to be themselves. That matters because the best equipment in the world cannot manufacture an honest conversation.

We’re also hands-on problem-solvers. Every client and every show is different, so we don’t force everyone into the same formula. We listen to what they’re trying to accomplish, help shape their vision, and build the production around their needs.

What we’re most proud of is turning an idea that began while recording our own podcast in my basement into a professional space where other people can bring their stories to life. Watching someone arrive nervous or uncertain and leave excited about what they created never gets old. We aren’t simply renting out microphones and cameras—we’re helping people find their voice, build confidence, and create something they’re proud to share.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people who know me through The Recording Pod may not realize is that I also own Thick Thigh Tribe, an inclusive apparel brand focused on plus-size women.

Running a fashion and e-commerce business might seem completely separate from podcast production, but it has given me a valuable understanding of branding, customer experience, community-building, and the constant need for strong content. I’m proud that I’ve been able to build businesses in two very different industries while staying focused on helping people feel seen, confident, and represented.
