Check Out Makayla Purvis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Purvis.

Hi Makayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 2020 with my Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Journalism, I launched an entertainment blog called the Unrivaled Gypsy, during the COVID-19 pandemic. I wanted to create a platform where I could share my thoughts and reviews on television shows across different genres and streaming platforms while helping audiences discover content they might enjoy. What started as a creative outlet during an uncertain time has grown into an ongoing passion project that I continue to maintain today. My background in Multimedia Journalism helped lay the foundation for my interest in storytelling and entertainment, while running the blog has given me an opportunity to express my creativity and develop my voice as a content creator. I see the Unrivaled Gypsy blog as an important part of my professional journey and I’m excited to continue growing, exploring new opportunities, and expanding my presence in the entertainment and media industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles in the beginning was staying consistent with my content. In the beginning, I had a habit of “posting and ghosting,” where I would post content and then disappear for a while before posting again. Over time, I realized that building a successful platform required more consistency and commitment, so I started developing the habit of posting every week and being more intentional about maintaining my blog. Another challenge has been engagement. Building an audience and getting people to interact with my content has been difficult, and it’s something I’m still working on today. It can be discouraging when you put time and effort into creating content and don’t always get the response you hoped for, but I’ve learned that growing a platform takes time, patience, and willingness to keep trying new things.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professionally, I’ve worked various administrative roles ranging from concierge to executive assistant, which has allowed me to have strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Throughout these experiences, I’ve learned the importance of being adaptable, detail-oriented, professional, and able to anticipate the needs of others. I believe what sets me apart is the combination of my administrative experience and creative background. I am comfortable working behind the scenes to keep things organized and running smoothly but I also enjoy opportunities that allow me to communicate and bring ideas to life. I’m someone who is always looking to learn, improve, and take on new challenges. I’m proud of the different experiences that have shaped me professionally.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think both the administrative field and the entertainment industry will continue to evolve over the next five to ten years, especially as technology and artificial intelligence become more integrated into everyday lives. In the administrative field, I see AI and automation taking over more routine tasks such as scheduling and organizing information but I don’t think the human elements will go away completely. Anticipating people’s needs and building relationships will continue to be important especially for executive assistants and concierge professionals. In the entertainment industry, I think we’ll continue to see changes in how people discover and consume content. Streaming platforms, social media, and content creators are striving for audiences attention which will create more opportunities for people to share their perspectives, build their own platforms, and build their own communities. I think the biggest takeaway is that we have to be willing to continue learning without losing the personal touch that makes our work meaningful.
