Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Rogers.
Hi Natalie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started to go down my own spiritual path in 2019 when I started feeling drawn to things like the tarot, astrology, ancestors, and earth-center spirituality after coming out of the darkest period of my life. As I walked down this path, I discovered the importance of ceremony and ritual for healing and transformation. I realized that so many people are like me- spiritual but not religious. I think people still want to have the significant benchmarks in their lives recognized, but they don’t want to involve religion. I wanted to be able to offer spiritual services outside of religion. That’s how I found interspirituality.
I attended interspiritual seminary at the One Spirit Learning Alliance in New York from 2023 to 2025, and received my ordination in June 2025. I also trained with the Natural Transitions Institute (formerly known as the Celebrant Foundation and Institute) in their ceremonies for healing & transitions and in their weddings certification.
Two months after I was ordained, I was laid off from my full time job. At first I was devastated. Scared about what would come. Then, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to go for my dreams. I wanted to be a working minister offering weddings and other ceremonies. So I took the leap. I settled on the name Heartwork Spiritual Services, set up the website and email. The very next day, I booked my first wedding. I’ve been figuring it out as I go ever since! Along the way, I started offering tarot services as well. Doing readings at weddings and other events as well as hosting community events like tarot circles.
This journey has taught me the importance of letting our hearts lead the way. We don’t have to know where everything is going or how our paths will unfold. We only have to listen to the desires of our hearts, allowing the call to guide our next steps.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like one of the big struggles along the way was having people not understand what I was working towards and why. People hear “interspiritual minister” and they think “what’s that?” They’ve never heard of that before. I knew I had something real that I was working towards, but it just wasn’t something people understood before I started actually doing it.
It’s also really scary to put yourself out there! Ceremony is an art. It’s deeply personal. It can feel vulnerable to put it out there if you’re not sure how it’ll be received. Luckily, once I started getting out there and doing it, people started to see what I had been envisioning for so long.
Also, like a lot of spiritual people, I was put on a spiritual path through trauma. I met the worst version of myself- one who was causing harm to myself and others. I had to face my darkness and how it was affecting the people around me and find out a way to move forward. That has been an uncomfortable process of growth and transformation, but I have met a version of myself that I’m so proud of on the other side.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an interspiritual/interfaith minister serving the greater Washington DC area through ceremony and tarot. Most people have never heard of interspirituality before. I hadn’t! Interspirituality is a spiritual approach that recognizes and affirms all spiritual paths- both religious and non-religious. Interspirituality asks “what is most sacred to you?” “What makes you feel most connected to the divine, spirit, the Creator, God, love, life, the universe, oneness, etc?”
Interspiritual ministers are trained to support individuals on their unique spiritual journey, perform a range of non-religious ceremonies, and to be a bridge between the sacred and the secular. We are committed to honoring all spiritual traditions and to seeing the common threads between them. I believe that, at its best, interspirituality helps us root in the traditions of our past, while imagining new futures that recognize our interconnectedness with all things. I believe most of us have an interspiritual approach to our spirituality- even if that’s not the language we would use.
Currently, I mostly offer non-religious wedding ceremonies. My signature wedding ceremony is one where the couple does a ritual to invoke each element- water, earth, air, and fire- to transform them into a married couple.
One of my favorite offerings are tarot circles. I love bringing people together around the tarot. This is an experience where I bring a bunch of tarot and oracle decks. I teach participants how to read the cards if they haven’t before. Then, we spend intentional time pulling cards and sharing what came up for us. It’s always a very connecting and magical experience.
Looking forward, I hope to offer more life-cycle ceremonies. I believe all moments in life are worthy of ceremony. Maybe someone has just come out on the other side of something transformative. Let’s do a ceremony. Maybe they’re moving to a new home. Ceremony. Bringing new life into the world. Ceremony. Starting a project. Ceremony. There are so many moments that we can bring intention to. I’d love to support people in doing that.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think I’m really good at having a vision and going for it. I know what I’m aiming for, and even if I don’t know exactly how I’ll get there, I know I can take the next step forward and figure it out as I go. I’m also willing to do it scared- afraid of how I’ll be received, afraid if things will work out or not. I’m scared, but I do it anyway because I love what I do.
