Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Duncan.
paola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Pao, I’m 25, and honestly? Dot Creative was never part of the plan.
While studying in Vancouver, Canada, I landed my dream job at a marketing agency. Then I moved back home to the DMV, lost that job a few months later, and felt completely lost. My friends had been telling me for years to start my own thing, but impostor syndrome had me convinced no one would want my services.
Turns out, I was wrong. One client turned into two, then more, and this December marks two years of Dot Creative. What started as “let me see where this goes” became an agency helping small women owned businesses across the DMV show up confidently online.
Now I’m starting a new venture: The Love Dot, our sister brand for weddings and special moments. It came from my own bridal era and from wanting to create the content I wished I could find.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! For almost eight months, I only had one or two clients. My portfolio wasn’t strong yet, my branding wasn’t consistent, and there were plenty of moments when I wondered if this was really going to work.
It’s been a wild, amazing ride with so many ups and downs. What kept me going was the women around me. I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by talented, inspiring women who have mentored me and cheered me on every step of the way. That support means everything, and it’s a big part of why I show up for my clients the way I do.
