Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Clickner.
Hi Sierra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Michigan and pursued Musical Theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC and finished my Bachelors in Los Angeles. While there I did gigs here and there and also sang for Norwegian Cruise Lines. However over the past few years my career has changed drastically and I am now on an endeavor of creating original music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. I was pretty confident in my ability, however the past few years have been a journey of unraveling that my identity isn’t in what I can do or create, but who God created me to be. I always thought my worth and identity was based off of how talented I was or wasn’t. Redefining who I am through my relationship with the Lord is the very thing that separated my “talent” with what defines my worth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For years I was known for theater and pursuing that. Now, it’s been a journey of telling my story and weaving faith into my music. Using my voice to give God glory and provide people with hope. What sets my music apart is that it has its own sound. I’ve been influenced by so many different genres of music, like Gospel, R&B, Pop, etc. As well as addressing things we all go through like suffering and the anxiety we can carry. My first song that’s almost like my testimony is going to be releasing this September as well!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Do it afraid. There’s so much dark and to be frank shallow music out there. The entertainment industry has become a trade and a business more than an art. I wish I had known that sooner; that as a singer or actor in the entertainment industry there’s a lot of deception that goes on. So do the things that actually make you proud, don’t lower your standard just to add another gig to your resume.
