Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Anderson.
Hi Angie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi everyone! Thank you for having me. I am the Founder of Wellness at Serenity Springs, formerly Serenity Counseling Center and Wellness located in Virginia. In this role, I have the honor of serving as a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Collaborative Divorce Coach & Child Specialist, and Certified Yoga Instructor providing mental health therapy, coaching and yoga therapy to hundreds of clients.
As a counselor for over twenty years in diverse settings, I have personally adopted an integrative approach while utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions and tools to best meet the needs of my clients. My intention is to bring to the session a theoretical recipe based upon person centered, existential, and cognitive behavioral ingredients. With an additional spirituality component, my hope is to empower my clients while practicing with an integrative model. With a person centered focus, the relationship is of the utmost importance providing authenticity, respect, and acceptance. Through an existential lens, my clients are supported to acknowledge potential for self-awareness and given freedom to choose individual fate. At times, cognitive behavioral interventions challenge personal belief systems to create awareness on the think-feel-do cycle. Technical I know but that is what I do.
Respecting the importance of the unity of families and marriages, I developed a five session program “Making Love Last.” Through my program, I am dedicated to assisting families and couples with enhanced healthy communication and effective conflict resolution while maintaining mutual respect. I am also collaboratively trained in helping families find balance and peace while going through a divorce. I work with children as a Child Specialist to learn effective coping skills to deal with the changes in the family as they separate/divorce. I will also work with parents in developing healthy parenting plans to make the transition easier. With the adults going through a divorce, I will serve as a Divorce Coach to help the individual cope and deal with the loss of the marriage and meet the client where they need to help the process be as amicable as possible.
Practicing yoga for over 20 years, I enjoy teaching yoga of all levels in a variety of settings. I love bringing my passion for yoga to many clients, teaching them to listen to their bodies & creating a space for each client to take their practice off the mat into their every day lives. I offer private sessions and special events in a historical one room schoolhouse that has been transformed into a quaint yoga studio that can comfortably host up to 10 yogis. I love hosting my Spring and Fall Wellness Retreats in the beautiful mountains of Virginia each year. I equally enjoy collaborating with local businesses and bringing yoga in the community.
Utilizing my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, I have most recently enjoyed branching out as a counselor educator and clinical supervisor. In this role, I passionately bring my experience of counseling to future counselors. Presently, I am honored to serve as the Program Director of the Master’s of Counseling Program and as an Assistant Professor with Thomas University, Adjunct Professor with Grand Canyon University and Contributing Faculty with Walden University.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have been very blessed in doing what I love as a mental health counselor, yoga therapist, clinical supervisor, and counselor educator. The biggest hurdle has been overcoming the stigma of mental health counseling. Overcoming the stigma of seeking mental health counseling can be challenging for many, as it requires confronting societal judgment and prioritizing well-being over others’ perceptions. It is important for my folks to know that they are not alone!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Most of what I do was already mentioned in my introduction so I will keep this answer shorter for the sake of the reader. Wellness at Serenity Springs is a holistic, wellness center offering personalized mental health counseling, yoga, meditation, and forest-bathing experiences to rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit. We specialize in authentic mental health therapies, blending traditional practices with modern wellness techniques. Our unique approach includes personalized wellness programs and immersive natural engagements, setting us apart as a premier destination for holistic health in rural Virginia.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I firmly have confidence in the mantra “believe you deserve and the universe will serve.” Being a firm believer in the Law of Attraction means fully trusting that my thoughts, emotions, and beliefs shape my reality. I see the universe as responsive to the energy I put out, believing that positive thoughts and feelings attract positive experiences, while negativity draws more of the same. It involves practicing intentional focus—visualizing my goals, maintaining gratitude, and aligning my mindset with the life I want to create. A strong believer sees challenges as opportunities to redirect energy and treat manifestation as a daily, conscious practice of turning inner desires into outer reality. I certainly practice what I preach!
