Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Beckner.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Just like any other American even with a well paying job I just couldn’t make ends meet. So I decided to start a small side business of just mowing lawns on the weekends while I was still a plant manager for Boxley Ready Mix. In 2009 I lost my Father suddenly from a heart attack at the young age of 47. I was lost. The only way I could keep my mind off the pain of dealing with that was work, work, work. My father always taught me a good work ethic and that hard work pays off. In 2012 my first son was born. I named him Anthony after my dad. Now I wasn’t working to deal with the pain. I was working to create a better future for my son. So he never had to struggle through life like I did. So every decision I made from that point on has led me to where I am today. Hard work and determination with a passion for success. My second son Brantley was born in 2021 . And he keeps me reminded of why I work so hard. One look at either of them and even the worst day becomes so much better.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road building this business from what I would say scratch. I started out with just a small 4×8 trailer, a John Deere D160 riding mower, a push mower, a backpack blower and determination with a passion for success. And from there I have built a company generating 20,000 dollars a month in revenue.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
CMB Landscaping focuses on bringing affordable landscaping to the average homeowner and commercial businesses alike. Providing quality lawn care, mulch installation, stone installation , snow removal, and property maintenance. We are known for being dependable and doing a great job on every project we touch.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk I took was on June 6th 2024. I decided to leave my full time job as a plant manager for a very prominent concrete company here in Roanoke Virginia to pursue my dream of being a business owner. Although a scary decision at the time, and a lot of uncertainty , I went for my dream with everything I had. It was the best decision I ever made.
