Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Hunter.
Hi Deborah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Crescendo Studios was started in 2019 by a special education teacher whose daughter was learning to sing opera. The daughter wasn’t getting what she needed from the music school she was attending so her parents bought a building and opened a school. Because of the size of the building, they were able to create rehearsal spaces for local bands and a venue space for concerts and other events. That original young lady has an incredible voice and is now studying at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University.
Although Crescendo Studios remains a music school first and foremost, we also host events to bring musicians together and support the musical community in Northern Virginia.
Our motto is “Community and haven for all musicians. The only requirement is passion!”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Crescendo opened just before COVID-19. That was definitely a bump in the road. A lot of lessons were conducted via Zoom and we went through hand sanitizer and masks like crazy, and took a lot of temperatures, but we stayed open. Every new business faces challenges and we are no different but we meet those challenges with creativity and a burning desire to remain a resource for the Northern Virginia music community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crescendo Studios?
Crescendo Studios is a community driven space that allows all musicians to feel unique and empowered by their personal musical journey. Crescendo wanted to also empower our instructors, many of whom are performing musicians, to allow them to teach their way using skills they have developed through years of experience.
We provide professional grade rehearsal spaces, professional recording services, and a venue space for album launches, concerts, reunions, festivals and events. We are proud to be the only studio in Northern Virginia that provides lessons, rehearsal spaces, professional recording and a venue. There are many places that offer some, but not all of these. We embrace the entire music community from the newest beginner to accomplished professional musicians.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to us is our relationship with the different parts of the community. A lot of our advertising is word of mouth. Treating clients/students with the respect and consideration they deserve goes a long way to helping our business grow and makes us feel great about what we’re doing.
