Community Highlights: Meet Joshua Banks of Match Maker VA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Banks.

Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a serial entrepreneur who works in X-ray and CT full-time and has started multiple businesses, including Voices of Virginia and Flex 4 Change, which created the nation’s largest kids’ fitness event. I am also a co-owner of a mobile X-ray company and more. As it pertains to my matchmaker VA, the idea came from not being a fan of reality shows. I woke up after having a dream that gave me an idea about how to make reality shows better. For about a week, I stayed up at night writing down more ideas that came to me from that dream. From there, my wife knew a friend who was acquainted with Corey Gandhi from Love Island. I reached out to him with the ideas I developed from my dream, and he immediately fell in love with the concept. We sat down in July 2025 and launched it in October 2025.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Along the way, there have been challenges, particularly regarding how fast we launched our show and the momentum we’ve gained. It has made things, in some ways, hard to keep up with the success and rapid growth of the show since we launched in October. From there, we began to receive thousands of applications and a tremendous amount of interest in our show, not just locally but internationally as well. When we launched, we had no investors, which took a financial toll on us as we tried to keep up with our plans for the launch. However, over time, we’ve been able to garner support from local businesses and partners who believe in our vision and have now become a part of the success of our show. Our goal is to continue to scale, grow, and build all the support we need to elevate our show to the standard we believe it can achieve.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Match Maker VA is the first of its kind when it comes to reality dating shows. It is unlike any other show that has been created, as it has more intentionality and purpose in seeking to find love and maintain that success through our show.

Some key aspects of our show include that it is based locally, recruiting only applicants from the state of Virginia, with the goal of matching them and placing them on dates throughout our series. Every month, we will select a new Top 9 contestants who represent everyday people. They are not required to meet specific social media criteria or conform to any particular appearance, as we have applicants ranging in age from 18 to over 65. Our goal is to keep the show realistic while also utilizing methods to bring practicality to finding love.

A unique component of our show is that we allow our audience to choose who makes it onto the show, specifically our Top 3 contestants. Once the Top 3 are chosen by the audience, anyone in the state of Virginia can submit an application to go on a date with them based on a compatibility quiz. Afterward, our Cupid Crew in production will help choose which Top 4 matches for the Top candidate. From there the candidate will choose from the 4 and decide who will make it to the date. We will film the date night, including the activities they partake in and the dinner they share. At the end of the date, there will be a lie detector test to determine if they are truly a match, emphasizing the importance of intentionality and honesty in our show.

We are most proud of eliminating unnecessary drama while focusing on true connection and love. Throughout this process, we ensure the show remains interesting and entertaining so that the audience can still experience excitement while being centered around something more genuine.

Something I want consumers to know about our brand is that, while it is available for local viewers, just like other reality shows, you can tune in and watch from anywhere in the world. You will still experience our dating reality show and see all the popular spots we visit, providing a fresh take on reality dating shows like never before.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with us by following us on our social media platforms. We are currently in the process of negotiating with major networks, and the more support we receive, the better our chances of securing a deal with one of the larger networks. Additionally, we are looking to franchise our brand so that we can have Matchmaker shows in different states across the U.S.
