Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Degismen.
Hi Anna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I never set out to become a photographer. It began quietly—with a camera in my hands and two little boys who became my first, and very patient, models.
At the time, I was building a career in business and finance. Photography was my creative escape. I photographed my children, experimented with light, posing, and composition, and taught myself through endless trial and error. What started as curiosity quickly became an obsession with creating something beautiful. But I didn’t want to simply take photographs. I wanted to understand what made an image feel extraordinary. That curiosity pushed me to keep learning. I studied lighting, posing, styling, retouching, and the art of creating an entire visual story. I invested in education, experimented with different techniques, and constantly challenged myself to see my work differently.
And my style evolved with me. My earliest images look very different from the work I create today—and I am proud of that. I don’t believe an artist should remain in one place creatively. Over the years, my work has become more refined, intentional, and editorial. Today, I am drawn to sophisticated portraits inspired by fashion and beauty—images with beautiful light, elegant styling, and a sense of timeless luxury. I want my clients to feel more than photographed. I want them to feel transformed.
Building my studio allowed me to bring that vision to life: couture gowns, carefully designed sets, professional lighting, and an experience created around each woman and her story. My work has since been published in magazines and recognized internationally, including First Place in the Creative Category at the NewGen Awards Americas Region.
Yet the most important part of my journey is something much simpler: I never stopped learning. I still look at my own work critically. I still experiment. I still search for better light, stronger composition, more beautiful movement, and a more meaningful way to tell a story.
Because luxury, to me, isn’t simply about beautiful gowns or a beautiful studio. It is in the details. It is in the experience. And it is in creating an image that makes someone pause—and see themselves in an entirely new way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I started from scratch, balancing a full-time career, raising two young boys, and building my photography business during nights and weekends. There were moments of self-doubt, financial investments that felt risky, and countless hours spent learning, practicing, and refining my craft. In the beginning, I photographed my own children whenever I could, using every session as an opportunity to improve. Over time, I realized that success in photography isn’t just about owning a camera—it’s about constantly evolving. Every challenge pushed me to become a better artist, and every client taught me something new. Looking back, those struggles shaped both my style and my business, and they continue to inspire me to keep growing and creating work that feels timeless and meaningful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in luxury maternity, newborn, and portrait photography, creating timeless, editorial-inspired images that celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. My style blends elegance with emotion, focusing on authentic connections while guiding my clients every step of the way to ensure they feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable in front of the camera.
What I’m most proud of is creating an experience that goes far beyond taking photos. From a carefully curated client wardrobe to personalized styling and meticulous retouching, every detail is designed to make my clients feel truly cared for. Many women come to me saying they’re not photogenic, and seeing their confidence transform throughout the session is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
What sets my work apart is my commitment to continuous growth. I invest in education, refine my techniques, and constantly evolve my artistic style to create images that are both sophisticated and timeless. My goal is for every client to leave with more than beautiful photographs—I want them to leave feeling empowered, confident, and with artwork that becomes part of their family’s legacy.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was both analytical and creative. I loved mathematics and enjoyed solving complex problems, but I was equally drawn to acting and performing. Looking back, those two passions shaped who I am today. Math taught me discipline, structure, and attention to detail, while acting sparked my creativity, imagination, and appreciation for storytelling. Photography has become the perfect combination of both worlds—it allows me to approach each session with technical precision while creating beautiful, emotional stories through my images. I’ve always been someone who loves to learn, challenge myself, and continuously grow, and that mindset continues to shape both my work and my life today.
