Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Repass, Jr..
Anthony, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a 3rd generation painter and I got my first job as a painters helper when I was 16 years old. My grandfather, dad and uncles were painters. I had really good teachers. I worked for my dad for many years before I started my own company. I started Chesapeake Painting Unlimited in March 2017. I work alongside with my brother and stepdaughter. Through the years, my 3 sons, my youngest brother, my dad and my daughter have worked with us on occasion. My wife came up with the slogan, “Painting Virginia One Wall At A Time”. I guess you can say that I run a family operated business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My company started off slow but another business owner gave me words of advise. He said to start small and never spend more than what is coming in. I can’t say it’s been smooth but we are steady. I have a great accountant whom I’ve known since I was a boy and he helps me in the taxes and payroll area of things. It has helped that I partnered with The Better Business Bureau and an internet search company. Social media has also played a part in getting my name out. There have been times that I didn’t win a bid but I remained positive and said that the person who won the job needed more than I did.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well I paint houses and small commercial jobs for a living. People sometimes say they don’t know how paint because they hate it. I find it therapeutic. I like seeing something old and then restoring it to its former beauty. I had good teachers and I’ve worked alongside some of the best painters. I take pride in what I do. I’m a painter and very proud to be one.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Probably. When work was low in the winter months I would work for my uncle in his Plastering company. I learned how to plaster and drywall. I also learned a few carpentry skills along the way. When we pull up to a job we can pretty much all inclusive. Our clients won’t need to hire another contractor outside of painting.
