Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando DeMarchi.
Hi Armando, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out in the wedding industry in March of 2021, and just slowly continued to change my style, color, approach, and just fell more in love with telling love stories! I also do recurring work for a nearby town’s tourism board, which has been a great way to continue growing and flexing my creative muscles in different ways. I was lucky enough to meet an incredible wedding videographer early on in my career and studied under him, and he continues to mentor and guide me as I grow. I’m very grateful to have so many sounding boards in my life to bounce ideas off of.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say finding my voice has been the hardest thing. Growth is natural and linear, but after awhile, you start to question yourself and your methods, which is good, but when you’re constantly holding your work up to the light and seeing things you want to change, it can feel challenging to know if you’re going in the right direction. But I wouldn’t change a thing, because my experiences have forged the traits and talents that are with me now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in wedding filmmaking. I would say my greatest strength is that I’m constantly discovering new things. Recently, I’ve found special joy in creating my teasers. Telling a wedding story in a film can sometimes feel formulaic. But showing a tiny window of that story in a quick, 1 minute recap gives a burst of emotions through different frames ins a smaller time period, and is so fun to share with the world. I try to utilize a lot of ‘inbetween’ moments from a wedding day, a florist placing a bouquet on the table, a beautiful mirror while someone walks by, etc. Just little moments that really make you feel immersed without being the usual suspects of shots. I feel it gives a deeper sense of what the day felt and sounded like.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to continue booking weddings out of state. So far I’ve filmed two in New Jersey and will hopefully be in upstate New York next year. I absolutely adore traveling, so getting to create beautiful work across the country is my ultimate goal. In terms of changes, I just want to continue exploring the world of film and doing new things with composition and light. I also have been loving incorporating Super 8 mm film into my work. The tangible analog aspect is so fun and gives a fresh perspective.
