Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanca Gruber.
Hi Blanca, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I was connected to the arts thanks to my grandmother. My parents were politically persecuted by the government, so my brother and I stayed with my maternal grandmother. From the time I was a year old, she took care of me. She came from a noble family. She educated me and gave me the opportunity to have private tutors who introduced me to music and painting. As the years passed, I became involved in sculpture and theater as a director and independent producer, while studying library science at university. Around that time, I also began to get involved in film and made my first short film. That was around 1994. By 1995, I had moved to the United States in search of more opportunities. It has been quite a journey starting over in a new country, a new place, and with new people. So, moving to a new country was a challenge for me. I would say that art is universal, and it has been what has opened doors for me to advance and progress in my career and my dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My curious spirit compels me to wander. The best way to face obstacles and challenges is to look at them from a different perspective. They are tests to make you stronger. Every day is a new beginning, a new opportunity to change and achieve your dreams and overcome challenges.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a naturally multidisciplinary artist. I have explored almost every form of artistic expression, which has given me a wide range of creative possibilities. I am a creator. I have studied music, visual arts, sculpture, theater, dance, and film, from the fundamentals to the most advanced areas. I have no boundaries; it’s simply a practice.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My grandmother and the View-Master toy amazed me with its image, dimensions, and colors. This sparked my love for film and animation, which continues to this day! I’ve built my career as an independent filmmaker throughout my life.
