Conversations with Dana Provo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Provo.

Hi Dana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Photography has been a passion of mine since I was young; I always had a camera in my hand. I took several classes to help me learn and grow as a photographer throughout high school, college and even after. It wasn’t until many years after high school that I decided that was the creative outlet I needed and wanted to be involved in, so I began photographing my friends and their horses. Being involved with my barn and the equine community gave me my start to my business. I then transitioned to portraits and weddings. Today after 6 years in business, I am focused on wedding and lifestyle photography and absolutely love capturing my client’s love stories. I’ve won first and second place in the Richmond Community Awards and have been featured in neighborhood magazines in my area.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the height of my career, COVID hit us hard, making it nearly impossible to capture weddings and portraits unless we were outdoors. With my start in Equine Photography, I was able to lean into that and continue to grow my business as I was photographing horses and their owners. While other photographers were struggling and loosing business, I was thriving because of the unique community I belonged to.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I focus on wedding and lifestyle photography while also keeping those equine portraits as a big part of my business. People know me for my true color images, calm, fun demeanor and passion for what I do.

I’m truly proud of how far I have grown my business and love the fact that my clients will support me with whatever I do and share with them. I was able to earn first and second place in the Richmond Community Awards two years in a row.

What sets me apart from others is the fact that I am just so chill. Clients love that they can lean on me during stressful parts of their wedding day and I don’t add to the drama. I’m easy going, assertive when I need to be, and genuinely happy to be there.

What matters most to you?
Photography is not just a passion, but an art. I love being able to create a story of their session or wedding day and presenting it to my clients. What matters most to me is giving my clients the most memorable experience so they not only have fun and love their images, but also tell their family and friends.
