Hi Keith, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For Keith Brougham, Virginia was more than a place where he went to college—it was where his life began to take shape.
His time at Hampton University exposed him to a culture of excellence, creativity, ambition, and possibility. Hampton’s long tradition of developing leaders across business, media, music, and the arts gave Keith an environment where he could begin to see beyond simply having a career and start envisioning a life in the music business. Virginia became the launching pad for a journey that would eventually take Keith to New York City and the major-label side of the music industry. The lessons he gained at Hampton—combined with the relationships, experiences, and confidence he developed throughout Virginia—helped prepare him to navigate one of the most competitive entertainment markets in the world.
In New York, Keith transitioned from student and aspiring music professional into a major record-label executive, gaining firsthand experience in the business behind the music: artists, records, marketing, promotion, relationships, and the machinery required to move music from an idea into the marketplace.
But the story didn’t end in the executive offices.
Keith eventually stepped from behind the scenes to the front of the microphone, becoming a singer, songwriter, and recording artist in his own right. Today, his music reaches audiences far beyond Virginia, with his records being heard on radio stations, in clubs, and through music communities across the country.
Yet Virginia remains an important part of the story.
Hampton taught Keith that his background could be a foundation rather than a limitation. Virginia gave him an environment where education, culture, music, and ambition intersected. And New York gave him the opportunity to turn those lessons into industry experience.

It has been struggles throughout the journey but I love music so the wins, and experience has far outweighed the obstacles and struggles
