Today we’d like to introduce you to Myesha Collins.
Hi Myesha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Thank you for taking the time to interview me today! Beginning this journey in 2015, I knew I would make an impact but I had no idea at what level. Blue Girl Turned Gold is an Anthology (2017) project and Blue Girls Turned Gold (2015) is the not for profit organization I founded and created.
Winning Best Activist in 2018 and now with 6 books published, thousands of people impacted and adding a Spiritual Arm (Ordained Minister Spiritual Practitioner) to my purpose, it all makes even more sense.
As a child I always wanted to be an author, I always wanted to speak about things that were powerful, I always wanted to belong, and now I do!
Along with Founding the Organization and creating the books that empower; I also am a youth advocate. Currently a Virginia Beach Public School Partner in Education. This is important because the youth is indeed the future. It is the reflection I saw in myself that allows me to assist students, staff and their families.
We are always looking for partnerships that help us forward our mission of Self Love, Self Transformation and Self Empowerment!
We are coming up on our 10th year of impact and I am excited to be able to obtain continued donations, Gifts in Kind and volunteer support.
This is a collective effort and it takes all of us to ensure optimal reach and positive powerful results and outcomes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Challenges rise and they fall. It is a cycle of growth which strengthens us un my opinion. Even in frustration or uncertainty, it strengthens us!
One of the major challenges I have had was getting the support from those who actually needed the resources I supplied. Whether it was investing in themselves or seeing that they too could overcome challenges that we all face in life.
With every challenge I am able to incorporate a creative solution and therefore continue to pave the way for myself and others alike. There have been many times where I had no one show up and there were many times when everyone showed up, it’s all a balance.
I focus on my ability to serve and my gift to be present and give what and how I can. Being able to identify and have resources and services that empower communities of all ages has helped thousands globally.
I continue to look forward to challenges and opportunities to allow us to grow and strengthen our capabilities.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am not sure what most people know me for, but I do know they know me as someone who constantly transforms, someone who is open to new endeavors and someone who is Authentically Me!
What sets me apart in my opinion, is simply the fact that I am the mission, I am the purpose and I understand that in that, the MAIN goal is just to be me and experiencing and expressing life as I see fit.
I am most proud of my ability to take a thought and transform into something powerful. Whatever that thought is, I find ways to make it powerful, not just for myself but for those who are influenced by me.
In addition to directing workshops, I also host events that encompass faith based resources and activities. Creative Expression is my super power; I excitedly think of new ways to connect.
Our experiences have been received very well. From our Tacos, Tarot and Transformation, Youth Planting Seeds to Greatness, the Genius Is workshop and Authentically Me events; I enjoy getting to know the needs and being able to individually and collectively assist those who seek and or need us.
Creativity and Freedom is the basis for all experiences and that allows me to continue to enhance the mission and achieve the goals set forth.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is various things for me. Success is knowing I belong, Success is knowing I have a voice, Success is being a resource, Success is being healthy, Success is having the ability to speak, Success is being seen as you intend, Success is community, Success is smiles and laughter, Success is Silence, Success is regrouping, Success to me is following God and honoring my gifts.
