Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Lee.
Hi Olivia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always wanted to do makeup, ever since I was a little girl. I even wrote papers about it in school in career class. I ended up getting a full scholarship to college, so instead of pursing makeup, I furthered my education, eventually getting my Masters in Forensic Psychology. During my time in the legal corporate world, I desperately needed a creative outlet. I began doing a “13 Days of Halloween” makeup series on social media, and from there, GOREgeous Makeup by Liv was born. I’m so grateful to be a full time makeup artist, with my own studio.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning your own business focusing in a luxury service is always intimidating. I have to be prepared for jam packed 16 hour days, and days where there’s no clients at all. The pressure to have to be a salesman, content creator, people pleaser, etc. can be challenging as a creative. Luckily, I have an amazing clientele who support and trust me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a “jack of all trades” kind of makeup artist. I do it all, but I’m particular know for my Halloween makeup. Spooky creations are where I really shine, but my day in and day out involves making people feel like the best version of themselves with stunning glam makeup. My American Gothic themed studio showcases my darker aesthetic that carries throughout my branding and overall image.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I always loved anything creative and spooky! Halloween was my favorite holiday, and I always looked forward to dressing up. In high school, I was voted “Most Original” for Senior Superlative, and despite always being the weird girl with the colored hair and crazy makeup & clothes, I think my uniqueness has always been appreciated.
