Today we’d like to introduce you to Corrine Ice.
Hi Corrine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey started when I was very young, with one of those fisher price cameras. But I didn’t really fall in love with photography until middle school when I participated in an afterschool photography club. At this point, I did not have an actual camera yet, just my phone. My parents gifted me my first camera when I was twelve, a used Sony a200. It quickly became my favorite item I owned. My freshman year of high school I took my school’s photography class and learned a lot, but not nearly as much as I did the following year. My sophomore year my media teacher recommended me to a wedding venue that was looking for a photography intern. This was a huge leap for me, as I am extremely shy and anxious around people. But interning at the Golden Horseshoe Inn has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have learned so much from Heather, my photography mentor, as well as the rest of the GHI team. Before I started interning at the Golden Horseshoe Inn, I had never been particularly interested in portrait photography or taking pictures of people in general, I had mostly been taking pictures of nature. But at GHI I found a passion for portrait photography, which prompted me to start CI Photography. Now here’s the part where I mention that I am only 17, and a junior at William Monroe Highschool. Between junior year schoolwork and starting a photography business, it has been the busiest year of my life so far. But it has also been the most rewarding.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am an extremely anxious person, especially when it comes to talking to people. So, starting CI Photography was a terrifying prospect for me. I knew I would have to overcome the anxiety. I am still working on that, and my social skills, but I have made a lot of progress.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My goal with CI Photography is to provide a highly affordable yet quality option in Greene County and the surrounding area. I offer sessions for seniors, families, weddings, and events. My prices are what really sets me apart from others. As an editor of my school’s yearbook, I noticed that very few people last year got their senior portraits professionally done. So, when I decided to start CI Photography, I also decided to keep my prices as low as possible. I wanted the option of senior portraits, and now family sessions and wedding photography, to be more available to everyone in my community.
I believe that I am a little more well known in my community for the contests I recently won. Outside of CI Photography I also enjoy nature and wildlife photography. I recently won the youth category of the Piedmont Environmental Council’s photography contest with my photo of a native butterfly, as well as PVCC’s photography contest.
How do you think about luck?
I am extremely lucky to have had people like my media teacher, Heather and the GHI team, and my family to see my potential and encourage it. If it weren’t for their support, I would not have been able to overcome the anxiety and start CI Photography.
