Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Neville.
Hi Danielle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve rebuilt my life more times than I can count and every time, a song came with it. I left London chasing a dream. I never expected I’d have to rebuild my entire life to find it. People often ask me if music was Plan A. The truth is, music was the one thing that survived every other plan falling apart. If six-year-old me could see my life now, she’d probably think I’d completely lost the plot. I grew up in London, England, and from the moment I could stand on a stage, that’s exactly where I wanted to be. I was the kid who always had a song in her head, who loved performing, and who somehow convinced herself that one day she’d make a career out of telling stories through music. I left school at 16, the typical age in England, to study Musical Theatre full-time, graduating at 19 with a degree and absolutely no idea where life was about to take me. As it turns out… not where I expected.
Before America, there was Brazil. I spent two incredible years living there, learning Portuguese, immersing myself in a culture I’d grown up loving, and discovering just how big the world really was. It taught me that home isn’t always a place, sometimes it’s the people you meet, the language you struggle through, and the version of yourself you become when you’re brave enough to leave everything familiar behind.
I’ve now lived on three continents, and every single one has left its fingerprint on me. Like most artists, though, dreams don’t exactly come with a salary. In 2017, I started working in the fitness industry. It wasn’t because I’d given up on music, it was because I wanted a career that gave me flexibility, financial independence and the freedom to keep chasing it. I travelled whenever I could, continued building relationships in music, and quietly kept believing my time would come..
Then life happened!!
In 2021, I moved to the United States after getting married. I genuinely thought I’d found my happily ever after…Instead, I found myself living a life that looked nothing like the one I’d imagined. Behind closed doors, I slowly lost pieces of myself in a marriage that became deeply controlling and emotionally exhausting. By the time I found the strength to leave, I wasn’t just walking away from a relationship, I was rebuilding my entire life in a country that wasn’t my own. I often joked that I had two options: cry forever… or figure it out. So I figured it out.
Once I was legally able to work in America, I accepted a management position at a women’s personal training boutique in VA. I threw myself into learning everything I possibly could. Five years later, I’m now the Vice President of a company with four thriving locations. I never imagined fitness would become such a huge part of my identity, but helping build a business from the inside out has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Despite everything, I’ve always been an optimist. I still sound unmistakably British 5 years later, still drink more tea than coffee, and still believe that most problems feel a little smaller after a walk with my fur-babies. That outlook has carried me through every chapter of my life.
Somewhere along the way I also became a full-time dog mum to Coconut and Cali, my two fluffy girls who unquestionably run the house. They have absolutely no respect for deadlines, songwriting sessions or Zoom meetings, and their monthly grooming bill is definitely more than mine… but they’ve been there through every high, every heartbreak and every “what on earth am I doing?” moment.
The funny thing is… through every chapter, music never left me; Under my artist name, “Dani:ELLE”, I had the privilege of working with multi–Grammy Award-winning producers Mikal Blue (sony ATV) and Bret “EPIC” Mazur in Los Angeles, and together we created my first major EP in 2024. Those songs aren’t just songs. They’re the pages of a diary I chose to sing instead of keep to myself. Every lyric tells the truth about what it’s really like to leave your country, start over in America, survive divorce, question your identity, grieve the life you thought you’d have, and somehow find the courage to build a new one anyway. For years I spent so much of my life trying to keep everything together. Music is the one place where I stop pretending everything is okay.
The songs are raw, honest, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes hopeful, but every single word is true. I don’t write songs to create a version of my life that sounds prettier than it was. I write them because someone, somewhere, might be living their own version of the same story. Maybe they’re grieving. Maybe they’re rebuilding after divorce. Maybe they’re chasing a dream that feels impossible. Maybe they’ve simply forgotten who they are. If my music reminds even one person that they’re not alone, then every chapter I’ve lived has been worth writing about.
As we were preparing my first EP for release, life reminded me once again that you can’t plan everything. My dad, who still lived in England, became critically ill. For more than a year, I balanced running four businesses in America while flying back and forth across the Atlantic to spend every moment I could with him. Airports became routine. Hospital corridors became familiar. My suitcase was never really unpacked. My first songs were released in August 2025. My dad passed away in November 2025. Looking back now, I realize those songs unknowingly became a time capsule.
2026 has been a quieter year creatively, not because I’ve stopped dreaming but because sometimes healing has to come before creating. I’m finally back writing my second Album and for the first time in a long time, it feels like I’m writing from hope instead of survival.
Looking back, my life has been beautifully chaotic. I’ve lived on three continents, learned another language, rebuilt my life from scratch TWICE, helped grow a business I care deeply about and somehow found my way back to the little girl from London who simply wanted to tell stories. Not because everything worked out exactly as I planned, it didn’t. Not because life was easy, it wasn’t. But because I never stopped believing there was something beautiful waiting on the other side of the hardest chapters. I’ve learned that we don’t get to choose every chapter life gives us. We don’t choose heartbreak or grief. We don’t choose divorce, loss, or the moments that completely rewrite the future we thought we were going to have. But we DO get to choose what we create from those moments. For me, it became courage, resilience and leadership. And every single time… it became another song.
If there’s one thing my journey has taught me, it’s this: You can lose the life you thought you were meant to have and still build one that’s even more meaningful. Growing up, my dad always used to say, “What’s for you, won’t go by you.” For a long time, I didn’t fully understand what he meant. Now I do. Every chapter that broke my heart somehow led me to the life, the people, and the purpose I was meant to become. And every time life asked me to begin again… a song came with it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve always struggled to answer the question, “So… what do you do?” because the honest answer is… quite a lot haha!
By day, I’m the Vice President of a women’s personal training company, every day is different. One minute I’m looking at sales strategy, the next I’m mentoring staff, solving operational problems or helping shape the future of the company. I genuinely love it. Alongside that, I’m also an independent recording artist and songwriter under my stage name, “Dani:ELLE”. To most people those careers probably seem worlds apart, but to me they’ve always had the same purpose: helping people. One just happens in a gym. The other happens through a pair of headphones.
My music lives somewhere between soul, pop and british singer-songwriter, but more than anything, it’s honest. I don’t write fictional stories,I write about my own. Every lyric comes from a real chapter of my life, whether that’s leaving England, starting over in America, navigating divorce or finding myself again after life looked completely different to how I imagined it would. I’m most proud that I never gave up on either dream.
There were so many moments where life would’ve made perfect sense if I’d chosen the “safe” option or decided music wasn’t realistic anymore. Instead, I kept building both careers side by side. Some days that meant writing songs after ten-hour workdays. Other days it meant catching flights to Los Angeles, then coming straight back to gym meetings and spreadsheets. It’s certainly been a balancing act… but I wouldn’t change it.
What sets me apart? I think it’s the fact that I don’t believe people have to fit neatly into one box. You can be creative and analytical. You can be a business leader and an artist. You can love gym equipment meetings and recording studios equally.
If people know me for anything, it’s resilience. Not because I think I’m unique in my “struggles”, everyone has their own battles, but because I’ve always turned difficult chapters into something meaningful. Whether that’s helping grow a business, mentoring a team, or writing a song that makes someone feel seen, I’ve always believed there’s purpose to be found in the things we go through. Success has never really been about titles or numbers for me. It’s about impact. If someone walks out of one of my gyms feeling stronger than when they walked in, that’s a win. If someone messages me to say one of my songs made them feel understood during a difficult time, that’s a win.
At the heart of everything I do, that’s what I’m chasing. Helping people leave a little stronger, a little more hopeful and a little more themselves than they were before.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I think about my childhood, I don’t think of one specific memory, I think of a feeling… guess that’s the creative in me.
Some of my happiest memories were spent outdoors, surrounded by horses. If I wasn’t singing somewhere, I was usually at the stables. They taught me responsibility, power, patience and a quiet kind of confidence long before I realized those lessons would stay with me for life. Even now, being around horses instantly feels like coming home.
From the age of six, I was completely obsessed with performing. Whether I was singing in the living room, taking Musical Theatre classes or later performing on stages like the London Palladium, I felt most like myself when I was telling stories through music. I never questioned whether I’d grow up to perform, I just assumed I would. Children have a wonderful way of believing anything is possible!!
Looking back now, I realize how much my parents sacrificed to support those dreams. They spent countless hours driving me to rehearsals, performances and horse riding lessons, always encouraging me to chase whatever lit me up. At the time, I thought that was just what parents did. As an adult, I understand just how lucky I was.
Some of my favorite memories are actually the simplest ones, muddy boots after a morning at the stables, family dinners, laughing until my stomach hurt, and feeling completely carefree. Those are the moments I find myself missing the most.
My dad was always one of my biggest supporters. He had a saying he repeated throughout my childhood: “What’s for you won’t go by you Danielle.” as mentioned before, at the time, I never fully understood it. Now, it’s one of the philosophies I live by. When I look back, I don’t just remember horses or music. I remember growing up believing that dreams were worth chasing, hard work mattered, and kindness was never wasted.
I think that’s the greatest gift my childhood gave me and, in many ways, I’m still that little girl, she just has a few more stories to tell…
