Daily Inspiration: Meet Jim Augustine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Augustine.

Hi Jim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
During peek Covid my wife had a tea shop and I wanted something comforting like to to offer the public as well. I thought what’s more comforting than childhood memories. That’s when I decided to open a toy store a few doors down from
My wife’s tea shop. I started with a little over $7000 worth of toys and collectibles on day one. Now I have two full size warehouses and another store as well as one we hope to have up and running by November of this year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid made it rough at the beginning. Only allowing a few people in the store at a time complicated things. Plus I had a full time job as a manager for a property management company so my time was really stretched. Luckily, I have some real good friends that helped pull me through at the beginning.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
YesterToys is located in Virginia Beach and YesterToys 2 is in Yorktown, VA.
What’s sets us apart from other toy stores is when you sell your us we like to tell you what we will be selling the items for before we purchase them. I always thought is was fair to the consumer to know. We buy, sell and trade toys and collectibles 7 days a week.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that we are a Military town. Some of my best conversations are from young Navy guys that are only here for a short time.
Being a Military town is also a negative because some of my best customers are only here for a short period at times.
