Daily Inspiration: Meet Shenise Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shenise Foster.

Hi Shenise, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My content creation journey all started with being my friends and family’s unofficial food & travel advisor as a result of me sharing my adventures on my personal social media pages. Travel and food exploration has always been my passion, and I had always dreamed of becoming a travel guide writer for a major publication or hosting my own travel show.

So, with the encouragement from those same individuals and utilizing the lessons I learned from a mandatory leadership class that I had to take, I took a leap and launched my platform, The Munch Travelogue in 2018. My first initial concept of a blog with curated travel guides has evolved into a full fledge media company where I offer services such as digital media development, freelance writing and on camera appearances.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint at heart. The easiest part of the journey is the idea and the hard part kicks in when you start executing the vision. Consistency in motivation and opportunities have equally been a struggle in creating a business from scratch. There are times when you must pace yourself to prepare for longevity and divert from the trends that can stifle creativity.

It’s in those moments that I would repeat the mantra, “to those who work hard, good things would come”. This has kept me focused that the goal of The Munch Travelogue is to create content that is centered around my motto of learn, see, do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The inspiration for the digital media content and written art forms that I create come directly from my love for all things food, travel and Black History & Culture. Those who encounter my work on social media will find engaging and visually appealing content that entices them to plan their next outing by adding it to their must visit lists.

More detailed travel recommendations can be found on my website, The Munch Travelogue. This is where my curated travel guides our outlined using my motto of learn, see and do. Under each category I highlight hidden gems and munch tips that travelers can use to assist them with their plans.

As of today, I am most proud of being able to carve out a piece of this industry where my creativity can be shared and provide inspiration to someone who is looking to expand their travel boundaries. Thinking about what makes me standout from other creatives, I would say that I have a skill in finding the throughlines between travel, food & the Black experience and presenting it in an accessible format for consumption.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
What is something surprising that most people who know you or your work/brand might not know about you?

As much as I love to travel, people are always surprised when I tell them that I have a mild undiagnosed case of xenodochiophobia otherwise known as a hotel phobia. I believe I was triggered from those hotel makeover shows that used to come on during the early 2000s that showed all the unseeable imperfections under a high-resolution blue light. Since then, I have a whole ritual of the items that I pack to ensure that my hotel stay will be as comfortable as possible. It’s such a random thing to have for an avid traveler, but I don’t let it prevent me from doing what I love to do. I just accommodate by doing a little extra research and making sure my hotel travel kit is fully stocked.
