Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Marks of Pilates Warrenton LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Marks.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have worked in group fitness for years teaching barre and pilates classes. However I was always teaching for other owners and large franchise chains with no room for originality. Not much ability to teach creatively or with my own style. I wanted to be able to teach my style of teaching and help other achieve their fitness goals in a small more intimate group setting so I decided to open my own boutique pilates studio all still while working a full time 9-5 job. I took a huge risk, found a small commercial space, bought six reformers and didn’t look back. I have built a small fun community of women that love to come take my classes now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road at all, I had no one supporting my and my dream to open my own studio. Everyone said it would not work and it would be too risky and I should just stay working unhappy for large franchises. I did not want to completely up and quit my day job, so I had to do it all while still working a 9-5 job. I woke up at 4am every morning, taught morning pilates classes went to my day job, came home and taught all of the evening classes at the studio. About 3 months in I was ready to hire my first instructor. Then about a month ago I was financially able to hire two more instructors. I struggled alot in the beginning, doing everything on my own still while working a full time job. I did everything from the marketing, running the business, booking software, running the website, teaching the classes, and dealing with customers.

We’ve been impressed with Pilates Warrenton LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a small boutique reformer pilates studio. We are a dynamic more contemporary style of pilates. We offer smaller more intimate class sizes, able to give more one on one instruction to clients. I am most proud of our small class sizes, and the amazing community and friendships we have built with one another. We offer, reformer classes, barre classes, mat, and cardio classes. We teach to all levels and body types.

Any big plans?
We hope to possibly expand one day when the time is right! But right now I am just proud of the small community of women and friendships we have built. I love seeing people find the love and passion for pilates like i have found. I am so happy that I brought contemporary pilates to the small town of Warrenton, VA.
