Today we’d like to introduce you to LaSandia Holmes.
Hi LaSandia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey to starting Diamonds & Jewels Medical Transport LLC began with seeing a need in my community for safe, reliable transportation for seniors and individuals who need assistance getting to their medical appointments.
The inspiration behind my business is deeply personal. While accompanying my sister to her dialysis treatments, I made her a promise that she should never have to worry about getting a ride. Sadly, my sister passed away in 2020 from COVID-19 before I ever had the opportunity to transport her. Although I was unable to fulfill that promise for her, I decided to turn that promise into a purpose by helping others who face similar transportation challenges. My business is a way for me to honor her memory and keep that promise alive.
Starting a business has not been an easy journey. As a small, women-owned business, I have faced challenges while working to build relationships, find opportunities, and grow my company. There have been difficult days, but my passion for helping others keeps me moving forward.
Today, through Diamonds & Jewels Medical Transport LLC, I provide ambulatory and wheelchair transportation to help people get to and from their medical appointments safely and with dignity. My goal is to continue growing the business, reaching more people in need, and making a meaningful difference in my community.
For me, this business is about more than transportation. It is about compassion, keeping a promise, and making sure that people know they are not forgotten and that someone cares about their well-being. Every person I serve gives me another opportunity to honor my sister and the promise that started it all.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the road has not always been smooth. Starting and growing a small business has come with many challenges, especially when it comes to finding consistent business opportunities, building relationships with transportation brokers and community organizations, and managing the financial responsibilities that come with operating a transportation company.
As a small, women-and veteran- owned business, I have had to learn a lot along the way, be patient, and keep pushing forward even when things did not happen as quickly as I hoped. There have been times when I felt discouraged, but I remind myself why I started this journey in the first place. My mission is bigger than the challenges I face.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that building a business takes perseverance, faith, and a willingness to keep showing up even when the results are not immediate. I continue to introduce my business to healthcare providers and community organizations, hand out business cards, build relationships, and look for opportunities to serve more people.
Although the journey has not been easy, I am proud of how far I have come. Every challenge has taught me something, strengthened my determination, and reminded me that what I am building has a purpose. I believe in my business, and I am committed to continuing to grow it while honoring the promise I made to my sister.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Diamonds & Jewels Medical Transport LLC is a small, women- and veteran-owned non-emergency medical transportation business based in Glen Allen, Virginia. With over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry and a degree in Healthcare Administration, I understand how important it is for individuals to have dependable transportation to access the care they need.
My business specializes in wheelchair and ambulatory transportation for individuals who need assistance getting to and from medical appointments. My goal is to provide transportation with compassion, professionalism, respect, and dignity while helping clients and their families feel more confident about their transportation needs.
What sets my business apart is the heart and purpose behind it. The inspiration came from a promise I made to my sister while accompanying her to dialysis treatments: that she should never have to worry about getting a ride. She passed away in 2020 before I had the opportunity to transport her, but I chose to turn that promise into a purpose by helping others. Today, I continue to honor her memory through the work I do and the people I serve.
I am most proud of building a business that represents compassion, perseverance, and service to the community. As a small business owner, I am committed to building meaningful relationships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and families who need reliable transportation options.
I want readers to know that Diamonds & Jewels Medical Transport LLC is about more than getting someone from one place to another. It is about helping people maintain their independence, access medical care, and feel valued and respected. My vision is to continue growing my business, expanding the communities we serve, and making a positive difference in the lives of those who depend on transportation to meet their healthcare needs.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is making a positive difference in the lives of others. I believe everyone deserves to be treated with compassion, respect, and dignity, especially when they are facing health challenges or depending on someone else for help.
My passion for helping others is deeply personal. While accompanying my sister to her dialysis treatments, I promised her that she should never have to worry about getting a ride. Sadly, she passed away in 2020 before I had the opportunity to transport her. That experience changed my life and inspired me to turn my promise into a purpose through Diamonds & Jewels Medical Transport LLC. Every day, I strive to honor her memory by helping others get to their medical appointments safely and reliably.
I also value perseverance, faith, family, and the opportunity to build something meaningful. As a small, women- and veteran-owned business owner with over 20 years of experience in healthcare, I want my work to reflect the importance of caring for people, not just providing a service.
Ultimately, what matters most to me is knowing that someone feels cared for, that a family has one less thing to worry about, and that my work is making a difference. I want my legacy to be one of compassion, service, and purpose.
