Hi Meagan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey to creating Mixies started behind a bar and a coffee counter. As a barista and bartender, I fell in love with the creativity of crafting drinks, experimenting with unexpected flavor combinations, and finding new ways to make something ordinary feel special. That passion never left me.
Over time, I also became more intentional about what goes into what we consume. I started leaning toward pure, clean ingredients and moving away from additives like artificial food dyes and sugars. It felt important to me that something fun and playful could also be made with ingredients you actually feel good about.
In 2025, I decided to blend both of those interests and launch Mixies. We started with farmers markets and pop up events before also expanding to private events. We’re known for our signature menu of curated drinks, but I think the real magic happens when customers “mix it up,” our playful way of inviting people to build their own creation. They pick their base and mix and match flavors to make something entirely their own. The combinations people come up with are always so fun to see and it reminds me of why I started this.
My favorite part of what I do is the people. I love talking to customers, learning what they are drawn to and why, and watching someone light up over a drink they built themselves. That connection is at the heart of everything Mixies is about.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Parts of it have been smooth. People genuinely love the concept and the product, and that kind of early reception has been great for us.
The early challenges came in the building phase. Sourcing the right ingredients and finding partners we truly believed in took a few months, but it was one of the most worthwhile parts of the process. We learned so much about what actually goes into the products people consume every day, and it only deepened our commitment to doing things differently.
The ongoing challenge is visibility and persistence. Getting our name out there and staying consistent takes real effort, especially in a space where the “dirty soda” trend has become so popular. We take a different approach by not adding dairy or common store-bought syrups, and everything we use is compostable. So part of our work is making sure customers understand that Mixies is not just fun and playful, we actually care about what goes into your cup and what happens after.
We are also working toward longer term goals of eliminating artificial dyes and corn syrup from our offerings entirely. It is a process, but it is one we are committed to because it aligns with why we started in the first place.
We’ve been impressed with Mixies, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mixies is a pop-up drink experience specializing in custom sodas and energy drinks made with premium ingredients. Based in Northern Virginia, we are built around two things: great drinks and even better experiences.
What sets us apart is our “mix it up” approach. Customers pick their base and build their own flavor combination, making every drink personal and one of a kind. Our fruity sodas are by far our most popular offering, and our signature “Peach Out” is a fan favorite. It’s a strawberry peach blend that can be made as a soda or an energy drink. We also offer a line of sour sodas that taste just like popular sour candies but are made entirely with natural, recognizable ingredients.
Beyond our pop-up events across Northern Virginia, we offer private events including birthdays, weddings, corporate parties, and school events. For every booking, we create an exclusive menu with a custom name and signature drinks tied to the event’s colors, theme, school, or brand. No two menus are ever the same.
We are also a natural fit for guests and celebrations that prefer a fun, elevated alternative to alcohol. Our custom approach ensures that every single person walks away with something that feels made just for them, because it was.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I focus on people and creating something that makes them happy without impacting their health. That starts with our ingredients. Using natural, clean syrups is not just a standard we hold ourselves to, it is a reflection of how much we value the people we serve. For example, we received feedback about our sugar free syrup alternatives and pivoted to something more natural so that even if you want or need a sugar free option, we make sure it is as clean as possible.
That same care extends to the experience we offer. Watching someone build their own drink and seeing their face light up after that first sip never gets old. Being part of community events and showing up for people in that way is something we take a lot of pride in. We love being that option for someone who wants something more personal and elevated than what they can grab off a store shelf. The smiles and the connections are what keep us going.
