Today we’d like to introduce you to Monika Monk.
Hi Monika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business in 2020 with what felt like a simple goal. I wanted to become more flexible and understand how my body moved. I was fascinated by movement, sensuality, and the pleasure side of sexual wellness. That curiosity led me to become a Certified Sexual Health Professional, where I began studying intimacy more deeply. What I discovered shifted everything. Intimacy was not just about sex. It was about self awareness. It was about understanding your values, your communication style, your desires, and how you relate to yourself before anyone else. As I continued learning and sharing, I enrolled in a course on natural fertility awareness because I wanted to move away from birth control and better understand my cycle. That decision became a turning point. I learned that my 13 day periods were not normal and were likely connected to fibroids, polyps, and hormonal imbalance. That realization changed the direction of my work. I began exploring holistic womb health, seed cycling, gut health, nutrition, and how the phases of the menstrual cycle affect energy, leadership, and creativity. I was no longer just studying movement. I was studying the whole woman.
As I began implementing these practices in my own life, my health shifted and so did my coaching. I started to see how cycle awareness influenced the way women show up in their careers, relationships, and confidence. When I was invited to lead retreats, speak at conferences, and teach workshops, I realized something even bigger. These conversations were rare, especially coming from a Black woman. Representation in womb health and holistic cycle education is limited, despite the fact that Black women disproportionately experience fibroids and other reproductive health challenges. That awareness deepened my sense of responsibility. I knew this work was bigger than flexibility or even pleasure. It was about empowerment, education, and visibility. That is how my framework, Sacral Womb Mindfulness, was born. It integrates movement, intimacy, cycle syncing, and holistic wellness into one cohesive approach that helps women understand their bodies, honor their rhythm, and lead their lives from a place of alignment rather than burnout.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t smooth. When I first launched, I actually had a business partner. But as we got into the weeds, it became clear our visions didn’t align. What I learned from that is when an idea is truly yours, you have to nurture it. You can collaborate later, but not everyone’s meant to be your partner from the start. Another bump was that people assumed I was a sex coach. Because I talk about pleasure, folks couldn’t differentiate intimacy coaching from sex coaching. It created a branding challenge—my work spans womb health, mindfulness, leadership, and even Human Design. People didn’t know where to place me, especially since these conversations are rarely linked, particularly in the Black community. But those struggles taught me clarity—how to define my lane, educate, and show how all these threads connect into one cohesive offering.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business, Twisted Intimacy, was built on the belief that intimacy begins within. While many people hear the word intimacy and immediately think about sex, my work centers on self awareness, body literacy, and alignment. I specialize in holistic womb wellness, cycle syncing, and integrating pleasure and mindfulness into leadership and everyday life. At the core of my brand is my proprietary framework, Sacral Womb Mindfulness, which connects movement, nutrition, cycle awareness, nervous system regulation, and personal development into one cohesive system. I teach women how to understand their menstrual cycle as more than just a monthly event. It is a rhythm that impacts energy, creativity, communication, and decision making.
What sets my work apart is how I connect disciplines that are often separated. I am certified in sexual health, fitness and nutrition, and energy practices, which allows me to approach women’s wellness from multiple angles. I help women see how gut health connects to womb health, how leadership connects to hormonal fluctuations, and how pleasure is not indulgent but necessary. I also speak openly about these topics as a Black woman, which is important because conversations around fibroids, hormonal imbalance, and reproductive health disparities are often underrepresented in our communities. Representation matters in this space, and education needs to feel culturally aware and accessible.
Brand wise, I am most proud of building a framework that reflects my full evolution rather than shrinking myself to fit into one category. My offerings range from speaking engagements and workshops to group coaching and digital resources, all rooted in helping women reconnect to their bodies. I want readers to know that my brand is not about quick fixes. It is about sustainable transformation. It is about teaching women how to work with their body’s natural rhythm instead of fighting against it. When women understand their cycle, they understand themselves. And when they understand themselves, everything changes.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways to work with and support my work, depending on what someone is looking for. I offer speaking engagements, workshops, and retreat facilitation focused on cycle syncing, holistic womb wellness, pleasure, and leadership alignment. These experiences are designed for conferences, corporate spaces, wellness events, and community organizations that want to introduce a more embodied approach to women’s health and performance.
For individuals, I provide group coaching programs and digital resources rooted in my Sacral Womb Mindfulness framework. These offerings guide women through understanding their menstrual cycle, integrating movement and nutrition practices, and building self awareness that supports both personal and professional growth. I also collaborate with aligned brands and organizations in the wellness, reproductive health, and lifestyle spaces who are passionate about culturally aware education and empowerment.
For those who want to support the mission, engaging with the content, sharing resources, inviting me to speak, or partnering on initiatives that prioritize women’s health equity are meaningful ways to contribute. My work thrives through community, visibility, and strategic collaboration. The goal is simple: expand access to holistic, empowering cycle education in spaces where it has traditionally been overlooked.
