Exploring Life & Business with Nikole Vincent of Brilliant Minds Learning Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikole Vincent.

Hi Nikole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into entrepreneurship with Mom’s Need Help Too, LLC and subsequently Brilliant Minds Learning Center began, surprisingly, from one of the most challenging seasons of my life after the birth of my third child in 2013.

At that time, being a Philadelphia native, I was still adjusting to life in Hampton Roads, Virginia. I found myself struggling to balance postpartum recovery, caring for a newborn, raising two school-aged children, and managing the responsibilities of a household while my husband worked full time. I was also battling postpartum depression. Navigating motherhood without my extended family as a support system left me feeling incredibly overwhelmed, exhausted and isolated.

During that time, I often thought, “I feel alone, but I know I’m not. There must be other mothers feeling exactly like I do.” I realized that I could create the community I so deeply needed.

So, it was through those personal experiences, coupled with what I believe was divine guidance, that Moms Need Help Too LLC was born. I started with nothing more than an intense passion to help other families while utilizing my firsthand experience of being a mother of three. My goal was simple: to provide other families the individualized, genuine support I so desperately needed during my own postpartum journey.

As the years continued and my business bloomed, I had the privilege of serving many families throughout Hampton Roads. I witnessed firsthand how quality childcare and dependable support can transform and enhance a family’s daily life. That experience opened my eyes to an even greater need within our community for high-quality, early childhood education, and helping children build strong foundations for success.

Thus in 2023, I established Brilliant Minds Learning Center; a childcare center dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment where children can thrive during their most formative years. So, while Moms Need Help Too LLC focuses on supporting families in the comfort of their home, Brilliant Minds Learning Center allows me to positively impact children and families on a larger scale through early childhood education.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has been amazing, absolutely one of the biggest joys of my life, but the road has not been anything but smooth.

Like many entrepreneurs, I started with a vision and a passion, but I had very little understanding of how challenging it would be to build and sustain a business.
One of the biggest obstacles was building a business while simultaneously raising a family. There were days when I questioned whether I could continue. As a mother, you naturally put everyone else’s needs before your own, and as a business owner, those demands are exponentially increased. Learning how to balance both roles required tremendous growth, sacrifice, and resilience.

The pandemic was another unforeseen event that developed into a pivotal ultimatum: At the time, many lenders had tightened their requirements, and I was repeatedly denied business loans. I was faced with a decision: walk away from the dream or bet on myself. I had chosen a location for the learning center, I immediately saw the vision, but I had no idea how I was going to make it happen. I didn’t know how I would pay the security deposit, the rent, or the significant costs required to transform the space into a licensed childcare center.

And yet, I chose to bet on myself.

I sold my family vehicle and invested the funds into building out the center. It was one of the biggest financial risks I had ever taken. There were no guarantees of success, no promises that enrollment would come, and no certainty that everything would work out. But what I did have was faith, determination, and a clear vision of the impact I wanted to make for children and families in my community.

When I expanded into early childhood education and opened Brilliant Minds Learning Center, a new set of challenges emerged. Operating a licensed childcare center comes with extensive regulations, staffing responsibilities, compliance requirements, and the daily responsibility of caring for other people’s children. The childcare industry is incredibly rewarding, but it is also one of the most demanding professions because families are trusting you with what matters the most to them.

Looking back, I don’t view those struggles as setbacks; I view them as the foundation that shaped who I am today. Each obstacle has taught me something valuable about leadership, perseverance, and purpose. Every challenge strengthened my commitment to supporting families because I know firsthand what it feels like to need help and not know where to turn.

The road has certainly had its ups and downs, but I believe the most meaningful businesses are often built from real life experiences. My struggles gave me empathy, my faith gave me strength, and my purpose gave me the courage to keep going. Today, when I walk through the doors of Brilliant Minds Learning Center and see children learning, laughing, and thriving, I am reminded that some of life’s greatest rewards come from having the courage to believe in a vision long before anyone else can see it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Moms Need Help Too LLC is, as I have termed it, a ‘Mommy Concierge and Childcare Service’ designed to provide support directly in the comfort of families’ homes. We are here to assist families with a myriad of tasks: in-home childcare, newborn support, school drop-off / pick up, or simply an extra set of hands during a challenging season.

Brilliant Minds Learning Center provides a safe, nurturing, and educational environment where children can learn, grow, and develop a lifelong love of learning and community. We serve children during the most critical years of their development and focus on creating meaningful learning experiences that support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. We believe children learn best when they feel safe, valued, and loved.

What sets both businesses apart is that they were built from lived experience, not just business plans. Every service we offer has been shaped by real life challenges, real families, and a genuine understanding of what parents need. We don’t simply provide childcare; we build relationships, create support systems, and become trusted partners for families. We take the time to understand their individual circumstances, concerns, and goals.

I am most proud that both businesses have become known for trust, reliability, and genuine care. In an industry where parents are placing their most precious gifts into someone else’s hands, trust is everything. Knowing that families continue to refer their friends, return with younger siblings, and share positive experiences with others about their time with us is something I never take for granted. The safety of the families, children, and staff is of the utmost importance. We strictly follow all regulations as set by the Department of Education and extensive background checks are completed for all staff. We also have around-the-clock, on-site video surveillance.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I have learned throughout my journey is that purpose will carry you through seasons where passion alone cannot.

When I first started Moms Need Help Too LLC, I had a passion for helping mothers and families because I understood firsthand what it felt like to struggle without support. However, as I grew both businesses I learned that entrepreneurship is not always glamorous. There are difficult days, financial setbacks, unexpected obstacles, staffing challenges, personal sacrifices, and moments when you question whether you have the strength to continue.

What has sustained me through those moments is remembering my “why.” Every challenge became easier to navigate when I focused on the families, children, and mothers I set out to serve. Purpose gives you the ability to keep moving forward even when the path is uncertain.

Another lesson I’ve learned is that faith and action must work together. There were many times when I did not have all the answers, resources, or guarantees. Selling my vehicle during the pandemic to fund the buildout of Brilliant Minds Learning Center is a perfect example. It was one of the biggest risks I have ever taken, but I learned that sometimes you have to take a leap of faith while still doing the work required to make the vision a reality.

I have also learned the importance of resilience. Life and business will not always go according to plan. There will be disappointments, losses, and unexpected detours. Those experiences do not define you how you respond to them does. Every obstacle I have faced has strengthened my character, deepened my compassion, and helped me become a better leader.

Most importantly, I have learned that success is not measured solely by revenue, growth, or achievements. True success is found in impact. It is found in the mother who finally gets the support she needs, the child who gains confidence and thrives, the family that feels seen and cared for, and the lives that are positively changed because you chose to answer your calling.

If there is one lesson I hope others take from my journey, it is this: Don’t allow your current circumstances to determine your future possibilities. Some of the most meaningful businesses, careers, and purposes are born from life’s greatest challenges. What feels like a struggle today may very well become the foundation of your greatest contribution tomorrow.
