Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Horne.
Hi Susan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been in comedy for the last year. I decided to take a comedy class, after I had a life threatening flu, sepsis, and pneumonia. I was in ICU for 6 days and the hospital a total of 11 days. I went home several months on oxygen and I decided at 50, to try something I always wanted to do! I also feel like Jesus saved me for a reason and I speak in churches. Jesus saved me twice and I want to tell more people about him and bring joy and laughter to as many people as I can! I have been in 5 theatre shows, various other venues in 4 different states this past year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never easy outing yourself on a stage and using your life as material! There have been times I had to travel long hours and not know how many people would attend a show. Often other people would give me advice of how to perform, but I realized that it’s best to be who I am. It feels right to do it my way!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I do body positive, story telling comedy. I am really proud that I’m in a mostly male driven industry and I’m getting shows. I am proud that I had a vision of what I wanted to represent and I created a logo, website, merch and a 30 minute show, called Fat Lives Matter. The show is about how body image and body shaming as changed over the last 30 years. I hope it brings the message to be who God created you to be and don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself from time to time. Life is hard and laughter can bring us together.

That I’ve really had to work on self confidence and I still am always working on that.
