Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Verderame.
Danielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Shop Shop grew out of a communications career as I worked in various marketing agencies, advertising agencies, and internal marketing roles. What began as freelancing has grown into a small, local marketing agency where I work full-time with 2 employees and several subcontractors. Although we love helping any local brands and businesses, we specialize in retail marketing — offering strategic services to shop owners, artists, and makers. We’ll come alongside them with marketing expertise to find their customers. Then, they can focus on the parts of their business that they love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to starting The Shop Shop grew naturally although it wasn’t easy. Long hours of juggling full time employment with starting a viable business meant years of off-hours work until I could transition into working for myself full time. Thankfully, my clients saw value in working with our agile, responsive team as we grew.
We’ve been impressed with The Shop Shop, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a Lynchburg marketing agency focused on everything retail. We’ll make sure our client’s products are online and ready to sell. And they can get back to the parts of their business that they love.
Working with us is simple because we offer an unparalleled client experience.
First, we visit in person or schedule phone calls to discuss projects. This keeps our team on the same page as our clients throughout the week. It also helps us identify opportunities and challenges for a more personalized client experience.
Next, each client receives a weekly email summarizing the past week’s activities — including progress on the project. We also note anything needed from our client like approvals or content. Finally, we list what’s on the agenda for the coming week.
Finally, at the end of each month, we prepare a progress report customized to the project or campaign. This covers the metrics that matter most — for strategic decisions about the project.
Essentially, we’re real people who value local talent and partner with clients who feel the same way.
We’re ready to maintain, manage, and promote their store on any platform including WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, Square Online (Weebly), Comment Sold, Pinterest Shops, and Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Shops.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor should happen naturally as you connect with someone professionally. If you find someone you admire and work well with, ask them to meet with you. In the past, I’ve grown professional connections into more formal mentorships when I identify a goal and can ask them to help me get there.
