I began DJing in 2012 after serving in the US Army, and I launched Love & Light Entertainment in 2018 after moving to the DMV area. Over time, the story has become less about “starting a DJ company” and more about refining a boutique, veteran‑owned wedding entertainment experience for couples in Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland.
Over the past few years, we’ve grown from a scrappy, do‑everything‑ourselves operation into more of a one‑stop boutique that’s extremely intentional about the couples and clients we serve. I’ve invested a crazy amount of time into systems, automation, and tech so that the behind‑the‑scenes experience is just as smooth and personal as what guests feel on the dance floor.
I’ve branched out and started creating in‑house enhancements you won’t really find anywhere else, like EmberShare and Guestbook Hotline, along with interactive mirror photo booths, intelligent lighting and day‑of coordination that all work together as one experience. My focus now is on deep personalization and designing really intricate wedding timelines, thinking through every single moment, and asking how we can make it feel more intentional, more “them,” and less like a copy‑and‑paste reception.
Today, I see my role less as “just the DJ” and more as a partner in crafting the whole guest experience; bringing together music, MC work, lighting, special effects and smart planning so couples can actually be present at their wedding while we quietly handle the moving parts.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. Growing a boutique wedding DJ and entertainment company in the highly competitive DMV, Loudoun area means you’re constantly balancing art, logistics, and running an actual business, and I’ve had to learn a lot of that the hard way.
In the early years, I said yes to almost everything. Any inquiry, any venue, any budget. That burned me out and led to a few events where I knew I wasn’t the right fit, which never feels good when you care about the guest experience as much as I do. I’ve had to get comfortable saying no, tightening up our processes, and being really honest about who we serve best.
And like most small business owners, I’ve had seasons where juggling inquiries, planning meetings, late‑night events, and family life felt like too much. The tough parts have forced me to create better boundaries, build a support team, and treat this less like a hustle and more like a sustainable, long‑term brand that has longevity.

Love & Light Entertainment is a veteran‑owned wedding and event entertainment company based in Northern Virginia, serving couples throughout Washington DC, Maryland and the greater DMV. We specialize in high‑touch, highly personalized weddings where DJ, MC work, lighting, special effects and photo experiences are all designed to feel like one cohesive story instead of a collection of add‑ons.
While DJ and MC services are our primary focus, many couples and clients are surprised by how much we can offer in house. Our team includes registered civil celebrants and officiants, day of coordinators, interactive mirror photo booths and completely unique enhancements that you will not find anywhere else. Having everything under one roof means we all communicate with each other, we understand each person’s role and the event tends to run smoother than trying to pull together a team from several separate vendors.
As an Army veteran, you are trained to always have a backup plan for your backup plan, and that mindset shows up in how we design and support events. I originally became a registered civil celebrant as a backup in case a couple’s officiant was delayed or unable to make it to the ceremony. Over time I discovered how much I enjoy writing meaningful ceremony scripts and standing with couples in that moment. It is always special when guests realize that the person who legally married the couple is also the DJ guiding them through the rest of the night.

A lot of my best ideas come from studying what couples, guests, and event hosts actually need, then asking, “How can we make this simpler, more memorable, or more meaningful?”
I also use music, podcasts, audiobooks, and AI as daily thinking tools. They help me stay inspired, work through creative blocks, and keep improving how we serve people. At the end of the day, the best resource for me is anything that helps me better understand people, because our whole business is built around creating moments they’ll remember.
