Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Partamian.
Hi Karen , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew that I wanted to be a Speech language pathologist from the young age of 14. I was the Babysitter/Nanny for a family in New York that had children on the autism spectrum. I saw hours and hours on end of therapy services, including speech therapy within the home. Seeing the marvelous wonders that speech therapists can do to help children sparked my interest. I have been a Speech language pathologist for 12 years now. I currently work in the Norfolk high schools and have my own private practice called The Kid’s SLP PLLC located inside Sweet Frog in the Redmill area of Virginia Beach. I enjoy having my private practice as it allows me to really work one-on-one with the families and children that I service to give them individualized attention and help them with their needs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it really has been a smooth road having a job that I really love and helping others makes me feel like I never work a day in my life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business provides speech and language services along with evaluations for the pediatric population. I specialize in working with children on the autistic spectrum along with articulation, expressive and receptive, language, delays, fluency disorder, and many more. I currently accept private clients and provide Super bills. I am on the provider list for TRICARE patients. Being a provider that does not accept insurance allows me to provide more one-on-one individualized attention to each and every child that steps in my door. I do not have to spend countless hours trying to bill insurance and get reimbursed for my services.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have mentored many speech therapy graduate students, CFY, and SLPA’s. I have been helping them for approximately 10 years now. I enjoy sharing my areas of expertise with others were also interested in the same field as myself.
