Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Veliz.
Hi Nicole, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I truly discovered my purpose during a pivotal season in someone else’s life. I was supporting a woman very close to me as she navigated an extremely challenging divorce and major life transition. Finances had always come naturally to me, so stepping in to help felt instinctive — but what started as support quickly became something much deeper.
She was starting over completely on a single income. Together, we built a sustainable budget, created clear financial goals, structured a debt payoff plan, and ultimately established a path toward saving and long-term stability. Just as importantly, we worked through a significant mindset shift — moving from fear and uncertainty to clarity and confidence. Watching her regain independence and stability was transformational, not just for her, but for me as well.
Word spread organically within my network, and I began helping others through similar transitions. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just something I was good at — it was something I was called to do. I had always known I wanted to build a business, but I never anticipated that something so natural to me — guiding others toward financial clarity — would evolve into it.
Through that experience, I developed a deep passion for serving women who are starting over, as well as individuals navigating new financial seasons in life. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping someone replace uncertainty with confidence and empowerment.
Looking ahead, one of my long-term goals is to establish a nonprofit initiative that expands access to financial education and support for women in transitional seasons. I believe financial stability shouldn’t feel out of reach — and I am committed to building pathways that make it attainable for more people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I love this question because the honest answer is — no, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. But I actually think that’s what makes my coaching so real and relatable.
Building a financial coaching business isn’t just about numbers. It’s about people, emotions, confidence, and trust. One of the biggest struggles in the beginning was helping people understand that financial coaching is different from financial advising. I don’t sell investments — I help women build confidence, clarity, and control over their money. Educating people on that difference took time.
Another challenge was stepping into visibility. Talking about money can feel vulnerable — especially as a woman building a brand centered around financial empowerment. I had to grow comfortable sharing my voice, my perspective, and my passion publicly. That growth didn’t happen overnight.
There were also the normal entrepreneurial hurdles: building brand awareness, refining my messaging, learning marketing, and staying consistent even when engagement felt slow. But each “slow season” forced me to sharpen my mission and lean deeper into who I serve — women starting over, students learning independence, and couples building their future.
The road hasn’t been perfectly smooth, but it has been intentional. And honestly, that mirrors the financial journeys of my clients. Progress isn’t linear. There are setbacks, mindset shifts, and course corrections. But when you stay focused and committed, you build something stronger than perfection — you build resilience.
That’s what Perfect Cents is really about. Not perfection. Progress with purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Perfect Cents is a financial coaching company dedicated to helping individuals — especially women navigating major life transitions — build clarity, confidence, and control over their money. I specialize in practical budgeting systems, strategic debt repayment plans, savings structure, and mindset transformation.
What sets me apart is my personalized, judgment-free approach. Financial change isn’t just about numbers — it’s about rebuilding confidence and creating sustainable habits. I offer both comprehensive coaching packages and standalone services, which allows me to adapt to each client’s specific needs and stage of life.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust and empowerment I have built. Perfect Cents represents progress, not perfection. My mission is simple: to help clients move from financial overwhelm to confident decision-making — one intentional step at a time.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice to anyone just starting out is to start before you feel ready. Clarity often comes through action, not before it. In the early stages, it’s easy to overthink branding, messaging, or whether you’re “qualified enough.” What matters most is serving well and staying consistent.
I also wish I had fully understood how much visibility matters. You can be incredibly skilled at what you do, but if people don’t see you, hear you, or understand how you help, growth will be slow. Building trust takes repetition and showing up regularly — even when engagement feels quiet.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that progress is more important than perfection. Businesses grow the same way financial stability does — through intentional habits, steady refinement, and resilience. Stay focused on impact, stay adaptable, and trust that momentum builds over time.
