Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Anderson.
Hi Samuel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into entrepreneurship wasn’t exactly traditional. Before becoming a business owner, I spent about 10 years working in the mental health field. That experience taught me something incredibly valuable: how to understand people, connect with them, and recognize the power of communication. I didn’t realize it at the time, but those skills would become a huge part of my success in business.
In 2014, I founded Enso Media Firm in Richmond, Virginia, with a vision of helping businesses tell their stories and connect with their audiences through creative marketing. What started as an entrepreneurial pursuit has grown into a full-service marketing and media production company specializing in video production, social media management, content creation, and digital marketing strategy.
Over the years, I’ve learned that building a business isn’t just about having a great idea. It’s about relationships, consistency, taking risks, adapting when things don’t go as planned, and being willing to bet on yourself even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
Along the way, I also developed my personal brand, Mr Preneur, which has allowed me to expand into public speaking, business coaching, content creation, and podcasting. Through my podcast, *You Can’t Afford Me*, I have conversations with entrepreneurs, business leaders, and people doing incredible things in their respective industries. I’ve also expanded my platform through social media, where I share a mix of business insights, motivation, and humor.
Today, I’m not only focused on growing Enso Media Firm but also on creating opportunities to educate, inspire, and connect with other entrepreneurs. As a husband, father, and business owner, I’m constantly learning how to balance ambition with the things that matter most.
If there’s one thing my journey has taught me, it’s that you don’t have to follow someone else’s blueprint to become successful. You just have to be willing to create your own, put in the work, and keep showing up.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! And I think that’s one of the biggest misconceptions about entrepreneurship. People see the success, the social media posts, the accomplishments, and the opportunities, but they rarely see what happens behind the scenes.
Building Enso Media Firm has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, but it’s also been one of the most challenging.
One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to transition from being an entrepreneur to being a CEO. Those are two very different things. When you’re starting a business, you’re focused on doing whatever it takes to get the job done. But as the company grows, you have to learn how to build systems, develop people, delegate responsibilities, and trust others to execute your vision. That’s easier said than done, especially when you’ve spent years being involved in nearly every aspect of the business.
There have also been financial challenges, difficult decisions involving employees, clients who weren’t the right fit, and moments when I’ve questioned whether I was making the right moves. One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that just because your business is generating revenue doesn’t necessarily mean you’re building a profitable or sustainable company.
Another challenge has been finding balance. I’m a husband, a father of two, and an entrepreneur with big ambitions. There are only so many hours in a day, and I’ve had to learn that being successful in business means very little if I’m sacrificing everything else that’s important to me.
But here’s what I’ve come to appreciate about those challenges: every difficult season has taught me something that success alone never could.
I’ve learned to become more intentional about the clients we work with, the opportunities we pursue, and the people we surround ourselves with. I’ve also learned that sometimes growth requires you to let go of things that once helped you get to where you are.
After more than a decade in business, I still don’t have everything figured out. And I’m perfectly comfortable admitting that.
**Entrepreneurship isn’t about avoiding failure. It’s about learning, adjusting, and refusing to let temporary setbacks become permanent defeats.**
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Enso Media Firm ?
Enso Media Firm is a full-service creative marketing agency based in Richmond, Virginia, that I founded in 2014. Our philosophy is simple: **Marketing. Simplified.**
We help businesses, organizations, and entrepreneurs tell their stories, build their brands, and connect with the audiences that matter most. We specialize in professional video production, social media management, short-form content creation, podcast production, photography, digital advertising, and marketing strategy.
But what I believe truly sets Enso apart is that we’re not just focused on creating content. We’re focused on understanding the business behind the content.
One of the biggest mistakes I see companies make is assuming that posting consistently on social media automatically translates into business growth. It doesn’t. You need a strategy. You need to understand your audience, communicate your value, and create content that serves a purpose.
At Enso, we approach content through four key pillars: brand awareness, education, direct sales, and entertainment. Every piece of content we create should accomplish something within one of those categories. Whether we’re helping a small business establish its digital presence or working with an established organization to strengthen its brand, our goal is always to make marketing more effective and less overwhelming.
Another thing that makes us different is our emphasis on relationships. We don’t want to be a vendor that simply shows up, films a few videos, and disappears. We want to become a trusted extension of our clients’ teams. We take time to understand their goals, their challenges, and what success actually looks like for their business.
I’m also a big believer in practicing what you preach. Through my personal brand, Mr Preneur, I’ve built a growing social media audience by consistently creating content, experimenting with different formats, and understanding what makes people engage. That firsthand experience allows me to bring practical knowledge to our clients rather than simply repeating marketing theories.
What I’m most proud of, however, isn’t a particular video, campaign, or accomplishment. It’s the fact that we’ve built a company that helps other businesses grow while providing opportunities for talented creatives to do meaningful work.
When a client tells us that our work helped generate new opportunities, attract customers, or build credibility in their industry, that’s what makes everything worthwhile.
As we continue growing, my vision is to position Enso Media Firm as one of the most trusted creative marketing partners for businesses that recognize the importance of showing up consistently and professionally in today’s digital world.
At the end of the day, **we don’t just create content. We help businesses become brands people recognize, remember, and trust.**
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Richmond is that it has the accessibility of a small town with the opportunities of a much larger city.
Richmond has an incredible entrepreneurial community, a growing creative scene, amazing restaurants, and a culture that really makes it special. As someone who has spent more than a decade building a business here, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with some truly remarkable people.
One of my favorite things about Richmond is how connected everyone is. You can walk into a networking event, attend a charity golf tournament, or grab lunch somewhere and end up meeting someone who could become a client, business partner, or lifelong friend. Relationships really matter here, and I appreciate that.
I’m also raising my family here, so I appreciate that Richmond offers a great combination of business opportunities, entertainment, outdoor activities, and places to enjoy with my wife and kids.
As far as what I like least, I think Richmond sometimes suffers from a small-city mindset. We have an enormous amount of talent, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential right here in our backyard, but I don’t always think we recognize or support it as much as we should.
I’d love to see more local businesses collaborating, supporting one another, and thinking bigger about what’s possible. Sometimes we look outside our own community for resources and expertise when we have incredibly talented people right here.
I genuinely believe Richmond has the potential to become an even greater hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity. But that requires us to invest in one another and be willing to think beyond what we’ve traditionally known.
**I love Richmond. I just want to see us continue thinking and operating like the major city we’re capable of becoming.**
