Inspiring Conversations with Emily Matras of Lost and Found Floral Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Matras.

Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I founded my wedding floral business in 2025, after a decade working as a travel copywriter. I first fell in love with flowers after moving to the DC area—I would drive out to pick-your-own flower farms in Virginia, collect as many blooms as I could in my bucket, and have fun arranging at home. I’m also deeply inspired by the region’s seasons, and how things burst into bloom in the spring and fade into a riot of color in the fall. I don’t think I would have become a florist if I hadn’t moved here!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think balancing my personal floral style with trends that come and go has been a bit of challenge. I try to adapt my own style—which is organic and garden-inspired—with what’s popular currently in the world of weddings, to put my own spin on things. I’m now attracting couples who are specifically drawn to my style, which is SO fun and rewarding.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lost and Found Floral Co?
Lost and Found Floral Co is a wedding and event floral studio that serves Virginia, DC, and Maryland. We’re a season-led studio inspired by nature, the artful use of color, and the inherent beauty of flowers. Every wedding we design is different, as we work closely with each couple to create an atmosphere through florals that feels uniquely them. And I’m proud to call ourselves a sustainable studio; we work with local flower farms as much as possible to source in-season product, re-use materials whenever we can, and avoid the use of floral foam that contains petrochemicals that never fully biodegrade. There’s always room to improve, but sustainability is an important pillar for us!

Any big plans?
My big hope right now is to build on working with more design-minded wedding and event planners, so we can collaborate on the vision for couples who care deeply about the impression they make in their venues and for their guests—I think intentional flowers definitely set the tone. I’m also hoping to expand into a larger studio space so we can take on more couples over the next year!
