Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Thompson.
Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the one-woman show behind The Pink Chickadee – a preppy fashion and Grand millennial travel blog based in Northern Virginia. The Pink Chickadee started out of my desire to have something of my own during my college years. I clicked “post” on my first-ever blog post on January 15, 2020 on the brink of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, I re-coded my website and dedicated the majority of plentiful free time on my hands into The Pink Chickadee as a hobby. Over the years, I kept maintaining The Pink Chickadee as a hobby, whether it be through sharing my preppy styles and adventures whether in the DMV or halfway across the world. In Fall 2025, I decided to transform The Pink Chickadee – my audience and community – into a business that I pour into full-time today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nope! I almost gave up blogging just a few months into it as my fears and insecurities kept holding me back. As bloggers and creators, many of us feel scared of looking “cringe,” being brought up in group chats, others’ mean DMs, etc I took a break for a few months due to those fears. However, those fears can only take us so far and they do hold us back from pursuing our dreams. I am glad I got right back up after that break and never looked back.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Pink Chickadee?
The Pink Chickadee is a preppy fashion and Grand millennial travel blog that serves as your ultimate destination for affordable preppy fashion + home decor finds, charming getaways, and daily outfits of the day. Currently, I partner with fashion and home decor brands, local businesses – whether it be shops, wineries, or restaurants in the DMV, hotels and tourism boards both locally and abroad, and more to showcase their offerings from a unique preppy and Grand millennial lens.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think the more you act from an abundance mindset, the more likely you are to attract abundance. I also think that as entrepreneurs, we have to try things to drive in revenue – some of which may work and some of which may not. That’s OKAY. But, I do think that whatever avenues we try to increase revenue and that ultimately lead to success are things to repeat in similar ways and will ultimately lead to success.
