Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Sykes.
Hi Kristin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Sports PT Lab in 2018 because I wanted to create a Physical Therapy environment where I could provide high-quality care in a positive environment, one that encourages people to rise to their fullest potential.
With more than 15 years of clinical experience, I focus on finding the root cause of symptoms through one-on-one sessions, and building personalized plans for runners, athletes, and active adults. Along the way, I’ve pursued advanced training in running gait analysis, dry needling, manual therapy, blood flow restriction, and much more.
I love all things health and fitness and currently train for HYROX mixed doubles races with my husband. In the past, I have completed multiple marathons, triathlons, including Half Ironman, and Spartan events. This has allowed me to understand training demands on the body and what clients need as they are working toward larger fitness goals.
As the practice has grown, my goal has stayed the same: authentic, individualized care that helps people recover, prevent future injuries, and keep doing what they love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growth is rarely smooth or linear, and I can attest that capacity is built through adversity. I wouldn’t be where I am today without a strong faith in Jesus Christ and the support of my family.
There is one obstacle that stands out in my story. A few years ago, I outgrew renting a room in a gym and practicing as a solo entrepreneur. Moving into a larger space meant expanding the team and hiring therapists to work alongside me, which was a huge step. It took years to find the right space, and more time to find therapists who shared my vision and culture. Every stage meant moving into uncharted territory with an unknown future, and at times it was scary. Fears surfaced that I had to face.
Looking back, I’m happy to say things have worked out better than I imagined. It was worth the struggle.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sports PT Lab is a one-on-one physical therapy and performance practice founded in 2018. We work with runners, athletes, and active adults who want to recover from injury, build resilience, and stay active. Every session is tailored to the individual, so your care is built around your goals, not a one-size-fits-all plan. We focus on getting the most quality from each session.
We specialize in running injury rehabilitation and performance, strength training, and return-to-sport care. Our therapists use dry needling, manual therapy, progressive strength training, blood flow restriction, and much more to support lasting results. We’re known for finding the root cause of pain rather than just treating symptoms. Whether you’re training for your first race, chasing a personal record, or recovering from an injury, we’ll help you move with confidence for years to come.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’ll share a recent client example, keeping the details private. Not long ago, a client came to me about five weeks before their first marathon. They had done all the right training, but intense knee pain had stopped them in their tracks. They were worried they’d have to drop out of the race after investing so much time and energy in preparing.
Fortunately, it wasn’t a bony injury, which would have meant rest was the only option. Instead, we moved forward with physical therapy, using testing, treatment, and retesting to make sure each step was the right one. That process helped us find a path forward, and they went on to complete their first marathon.
One of the most overlooked parts of a runner’s training is strength. Running is essentially a series of single-leg landings, that places forces of 4-8x your body weight to absorb and produce force on one limb at a time. Without enough strength to handle that demand, small weaknesses or imbalances can turn into injuries.
That’s why I created an 8-week online strength program designed specifically for runners. It’s built on years of experience and my clinical understanding of what running demands of the body. Paired with a smart running plan, it helps you build the strength to run stronger, stay resilient, and keep doing what you love, wherever you are.
