Life & Work with Ashley Cubbage of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Cubbage.

Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in 2011 I was co-owner of a busy photography business. We did everything from newborns to weddings! I loved capturing special moments for families that would last a lifetime!

Unfortunately, capturing these moments for families and weddings was taking time away from my own family. Time that I cherish very much! It’s the one thing you can’t get back.

I decided around 2017-18 to step out of photography. The business, Ashley Photography, still runs but I am no longer a part of it. I needed the time with my family and I am so thankful for doing so.

Fast forward a few years and social media is really in the spotlight. I had fun with it in the beginning, sharing family photos and travel fun. Before I knew it I had started a whole new Instagram dedicated to travel. I worked with Airbnbs and hotels for collaborated stays and absolutely loved it! I love being creative and using my photography and videography skills.

I started to feel a shift in my content around 2024. While I love creating travel content the truth of the matter was that my family is not full time travelers. So I was digging for content, but still not ready to give it up.

So I made a shift and haven’t looked back! I don’t know why I never started here to begin with. The one thing that defines me and got me where I am. My family. I now focus on mom life content and I am able to work with brands in the UGC industry creating content for them while never missing a beat at home. I absolutely love what I do!

Looking back at my photography days I know that got me to where I am. The experience and the decision to prioritize my home is what landed me in the UGC world!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is ever smooth. There is always challenges, no matter what you do. I struggle most with self sabotage. Why would a brand want to work with me? What am I doing wrong during slow months. But then I think, “why NOT me”?

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself a very creative person. I love anything artsy and crafty! But if I had to say one thing I am most proud of it would be my children. They’re growing up so fast (oldest is 19) and I am so thankful to have had a front row seat to all of my kids’ childhoods!

What sets me apart from others? I don’t think I am anything too special or unique. But I am kind, and I like to make others feel good about their situation and selves. In this world I guess that’s different. Encouragement and positivity isn’t in abundance. So I try to bring that to the table!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory. Wow I have so many! I loved family vacations, and I now prioritize those with my own family. But if I had to choose a single favorite childhood memory it would be baking cookies with my mom, aunt, cousin, and my granny. We did this every Christmas season and I can still taste the sprinkles. What I’d give to go back.
